I decided to use my "briefcase" stoves instead of the 2 ring Camping Gaz stove, and 4 meals in I have only had to use one stove, so pretty pleased! We are fortunate to have a big utility room so I have the benefit of a fridge with ice box and a toaster to help out, but I haven't done anything so far that I couldn't do while camping.
Needhayley - tried your one pot garlic-parmesan pasta last night, and it is delicious!! I will be expected to cook it frequently!
Thanks to Sandgroper for the tip for keeping rice warm.
Lots of other suggestions from you all that I have yet to try, but I've got another week to go yet!
Another dish that needs no refrigerated ingredients and can also be made vegan: mushroom risotto. I used a mixture of tinned button mushrooms (for texture) and a pack of dried porcini/cep mushrooms for flavour. The lovely thing about this recipe is that it scales up well if you're feeding a big crowd, the only downside is you need to stay near the stove to keep stirring it.
Rice. We use the packet stuff (microwave one). To cook on a hob some have instructions. It is add 2 to 3 tablespoons of boiling water to the rice in a pan. Heat until water is absorbed and rice will be hot. Cover with a lid. Then serve all other food.
We use a burner stove. Can do 2 pans plus the last minute rice, so 3 pans.
