After my OH having radiotherapy last year he decided after we had been to CarFest that he didn't want to camp anymore. However as my new job I finish around 3pm on Fridays he now thinks weekends away could be just fine as we can arrive on site pitch and have 2 nights away. Also a bit difficult to say he won't camp when we are going to Botswanna in November to meet up with daughter & SIL to 4WD with roof tent for 2 weeks in the Okovango Delta.... Sorry one place I will not camp in a tent on the floor, I do not care that people say as long as the zip is done up a lion will not bother you & elephants 'tip toe' over the guy lines.... Rather be on top the vehicle. So a camping we are although not booking the Bank hols until forecast has been seen, I suppose you can't have everything.
Its a few years ago, but i went on a back packing safari around Southern Africa, we spent a couple of nights camping in the Okovango Delta. It was amazing!! We did go for a guided walk and got chased by an elephant, never forget looking behind me and seeing the elephant with his ears flapping!! We had them walking past our campsite too!

You will be fine just leave a saucer of milk out and for the lions. And for the elephants, hang towels over the guy lines or use those bright yellow plastic pegs.
For Africa tips and tricks rent or buy The Lion King
Aim for a non-BH weekend (it'll be quieter anyhows) and somewhere closish to home, that maybe you have overlooked for sites further afield. One can be a traveller and tourist in our own towns if you look at things with a new eye... I'm glad he seems to be on the mend and considering little and large adventures. GFI.
