I have been getting all the bits we need for camping, I even have 'camping' food at the ready, but now it seems everything has conspired against me and I won't be able to actually camp until the kids break up for summer.
I was going to go last weekend but my eldest son (14) had been on a waiting list for a local paper-round, he got offered a start but had to accept immediately i.e that weekend, the paper round is Saturday and Sunday mornings. I am proud of him for getting the round and doing it, even though it messes up all my weekend camping plans ( I would never let on to him how I feel lol)
So I thought, cheerily, nevermind the kids break up in a week and we will go in the school holidays. Well, I neglected to consider that it was a bank holiday weekend and all my local sites (well the ones I wanted to go to) were full.
Soooo I thought, ok, we will go Monday but it can only be for 1 night because my youngest two children are booked into holiday club for Wednesday and Thursday (if I had remembered about B/H I would have booked them in Thursday and Friday to allow for a 2 night trip)
Well now not only is my husband reluctant to go as he has fallen a bit behind on his courses he is doing, the new regulator set-up I had to get for our big, new BBQ doesn't fit my camping cooker... My son isn't home yet from sleeping out and I am on the verge of giving up bothering.
We theoretically could go this weekend coming (weather dependant) but eldest son will be away with cadets and I don't feel I can go on our first camping trip (in about 7yrs) without him....
Aw no!! Can you put the tent up in the garden to 'air it out' and then put a bed in it, go in with a good book, close the zip and pretend you are in a nice campsite with a sea view. Maybe get your husband to rig up some seagull sounds on a laptop.
good ide campernic! can you get ehu? my mum used to sit in the awning and study while camping and hubby would take the kids off, everyone was happy then, maybe a thought for future camps? xx

Hopefully a few more this year!
I'm sure you will get away during the main school holidays. Garden camping sounds a good idea but its not the same. The whole idea about camping is getting away. I can see too many temptations in the garden such as the kids just popping back into the house to use the PlayStation etc.
Oh it was nowhere near as good as getting away. I will say some benefits to having done it though.
1, I discovered we definitely need more comfort for night time.
2, the regulator for my camping cooker doesn't fit my gas bottle haha..
2, It reminded me how nippy night times can get, despite being lovely all evening.
3, The novelty factor for the kids decreased so hopefully when we actually go away they might not be so explosive lol.
Downsides were the flippin noise! we don't live in a very quiet area, unfortunately, so were kept awake by noise...
Also the big two buggered off inside most of the evening on their laptops lol.
Ah well it was still sort of fun. We will be all set by the time we can actually get away :)
Same here ! Suffering from camping withdrawal symptons too. Was planning on going camping with some friends and family groups this week, with DS3 and possibly DS2 and is girlfriend, but now DS3 has been invited to a 16th Birthday party which he doesn't want to miss out on, and also he has study session for is GCSE exams in this half-term. Hence I can't justify just me going. DS2 is not bothered about coming, and won't come if his brother isn't coming. Also my DH who doesn't camp would have a serious 'chuff' if I went off on my own and left him to ferry the kids around and feed them whilst fitting round his work (bit like I have to do normally :) ) Hey ho, lefts hope I get more organised during the summer break. There is a strong argument for booking in advance, so that you HAVE to go...

I've got withdrawal symptoms too, but we're going away the week after next.
We can't decide whether to head for Graffham in West Sussex (my favourite site ever)or Dorset. We go Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning, so we're not there when it's busy, so hopefully won't need to book.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
