Having given up on the idea of getting a canopy for my Vango Icarus 400 as wrong size, colour, expensive etc I'm thinking a tarp is going to be the next best thing (and more flexible).
I'm looking for something to stop the rain coming in the sloping door, plus offer enough shelter to cook/ eat under, leave stuff outside etc. I'm thinking the High Peak 2 which is 400 x 400 - which seems big but thought I could effectively make a canopy shape out of it- i.e have sides as well as roof cover by pegging it down at the sides using clingons and/or bungees. Does anyone with tarp knowledge think this may work and any tips/ advice. (There's a smaller 300x300 tarp as well). Is the High Peak one any good ? My tent is 180cm high and 260 width.

Help !

I use a 3.75m x 3.75m tarp for shade, and do not leave it up overnight or when I am away from the site for a significant period of time, unless I can be certain of good weather with very light wind.

I have not come across High Peak as a brand until now, therefore, I cannot comment on its quality.

I rig mine using the ridge line method, and attach the guys to the tarp via karabinas.

I use 2 sets of poles, the taller ones for the ridge line, and a pair of shorter ones in the front.

By attaching the guys to the tarp via karabinas, when I take the tarp down, I can leave all the guys in place without having to un-peg them.

Have a look at the
Tarp Origami if you have not already done so, for configuration ideas/inspirations to suit your needs.

Here is a pic of how I rig mine up:

I must re-emphasize that I do not leave it up overnight or when I am away from the site for long periods of time, unless I can be certain of good weather with very light wind.

Thanks everyone. Think I'll go with the big High Peak one and copy some of the ideas from the origami section !
