Brean Sands, Somerset - it's windy! Why did I ever think it was a good idea to pitch near the beach - EVERYTHING is covered in sand, including me!! I'll be cleaning sand out of my ears for weeks!
Have had to cross peg my guy lines as the ground is so dry & sandy and the wind gusts so strong they keep pinging out!
My 'bum' is to the wind & I have a building one side and my car the other, fingers crossed I make it through the night......
Wine o'clock now, so at least I'll be numbed to the pain if this wind continues!
Cheers :-)
I've just learnt a handy thing.Don't pitch near the beach!
I hate sand so that would be a nightmare.
We've got four kids and I dread those words"shall we go to the beach?"
Sun cream,sand and ice cream.Great!
Just sit me down and give me my iPod and leave them to it.
Least your away though.Enjoy.
Jay.
Always strong winds at some point during our holidays in North Cornwall as we are near the estuary. Last year was an absolute bonus as lovely weather for the whole two weeks although that means calm seas and not much surfing. Can't have it all guess.Enjoy the rest of your stay.
jkabika - Im with you - I have 4 kids and hate hate hate sand! I have a chair and I sit there, don't move and refuse to touch anything haha - luckily the hubby loves the beach so I'm just there for show haha :)

You can go off people you know Bob61! ;-)
Wind has now dropped a little, so happy camping to all out in the great outdoors this weekend:-)
I don't want to rub it in (yes I do) but the first time I went there and took a walk along Brean Down it was so hot that I was relieved to get to the fort at the end where I could catch a nice cooling breeze from the sea.
Hope you are now enjoying the weather (or is it raining)
Sorry for late replies, having trouble logging in using 3G on my phone!
Yes I survived the night, thankfully the wind died down by 11pmish.
Overcast but dry this morning, light wind, perfect for cooking my bacon! :-)
Walked from my campsite up onto the down - bonus, it was Weston air show, had lots of planes loop-the-looping & flying directly overhead - breathtaking even tho I'm not 'into' planes!
Got to the end of Brean Down, took a photo of the fort & was about to turn back when I met someone who said the fort was open. I'd come this far so in for a penny.....So glad I did, it was fascinating & got to view the underground gunpowder storage areas, officers mess etc. Definitely recommend a visit & the walk is easy, apart from the climb up onto the down! ;-) :-)
6.25 miles later after a not so swift cold half in the local (met a lovely family!) I return to my tent to the wind picking up and me being sandblasted again! :-(
Fabulous day :-) Now the only downside is I wished I'd used a higher SPF, F15 is not enough even when overcast, as I'll be going to bed with a beetroot red face......tho could that be the 2 (large!) glasses of vino tinto I've had with dinner?! or the relentless sand blasting?! I'll never need to exfoliate again ever!!
Hoping the wind is going to die down again tonight.........
Happy camping one & all :-)
PS: I really do detest sand, spent an age dust pan & brushing this morning, only to be back at square one this evening! :-(
Note to self - choose campsite away from the beach!
On a seriousness note, would/could this sand-blasting, technically at least, shorten the lifespan of a tent? Sorry, just wondering out loud!
Krakinka, glad you're getting plenty of "good bits" to negate your problems with sand & wind. Hope the face isn't too sore this morning... F50 in future, for the face!
