Hello all, over the years we've always chose our sites from forum reviews and they always lived up to our expectations, I found a site in glencoe, it looks fantastic as do the reviews, problem is its a hell of a drive, we usually do cornwall, this is about 280 miles but this would be 100 more, anyone done this sort of route, Warwickshire to glencoe, is it worth the trek? And what are the roads like for traffic etc.
Thanks Gaz.

I visit Glencoe on a regular basis and love the place....And (This is only my opinion) would say the journey from your area is well worth it for the scenery alone....
M74 from Gretna to Glasgow...About 1 1/2hrs....M73 to the M80/M9 for Stirling around 3/4hr...Leave the M9 at junction 10 A84 for Callander/Crianlarich...At Lochernhead take the A85 to Crianlarich then A82 to Tyndrum/Bridge of Orchy /Rannoch Moor/Glencoe...
Journey from my house (M80) takes approx.2hrs depending on weather I stop at the Green Welly In Tyndrum or not...
All A roads from Glasgow whichever way you go....But I prefer the above route as the A82 round Loch Lomond can be really busy with commercial traffic and touristy traffic depending on the time you hit it...
My route can also be busy....But less so than the Loch Lomond road....Both equally stunning scenery wise but twisty and bendy around the lochs and such....So the choice is yours if your in no hurry to get to Glencoe...
Hope this helps....
As a matter of intrest.....Which campsite will you be staying on????

I'm also biased but I'd agree that it's worth the journey, especially if you intend to use it as a base and do day trips . Morar, Arisaig, Rum, Eigg, Oban ..............😀😀

100% go for it, definitely worth the drive and we have never had any major traffic issues (she says, frantically crossing fingers, touching wood et al!)
We live in Bedford, and stopped over for a couple of nights in Glencoe last year on our way to Gairloch, and will be back that way at some point over July, after a week or so in North Cornwall, so as you can see we are not afraid of a long drive or two (we once drove from Bedford to Southern Italy with 5 kids in the car, in stages, admittedly!)
Will have a look at Jelboy's route, depending on where we end up it might be useful, thanks Jel!

Thankyou for the quick reply, the site is called Invercoe highland holidays. It looks superb. Regards. Gary
Good choice Gaz....Right on the shoreline with stunning views up Loch Leven....Handy for the village and nearby attractions.....
Be sure to visit the Clachaig pub...And call in at the Red Squirrel campsite for a look around....You pass the campsite if you use the single track road leading out of the far side of the village....
Keep an eye out for signs to Glencoe Lochan...And also Signal rock.....Both good walks.....

I used to do a lot of mountaineering all over Scotland, Glen Coe is one of the most stunning parts of the UK.
The drive up is well worth it, just take your time!
Avoid the M8 through Glasgow and the Loch Lomond route, we always go M74, M73, M80 to Stirling then A84 through Callender, A85 to Crianlarich and pick up the A82 which will take you through Glen Coe itself.
One walk that I can recommend which is very easy (with a bit of care) and will get you into stunning mountain scenery is up to the Lost Valley in Glen Coe. It takes you into a hidden valley between the first and second Sister of Glen Coe. Depending on your ability this can be extended onto Bidean Nam Bian, quite a serious mountain walk but perfectly within the capabilities of most hill walkers with the right kit.

Watch out for the Scottish midge...really vicious little beasts not to be ignored. You will need repellent in the evenings, candles and maybe even a midge net to wear over your head if you're out and about. But still worth it, a beautiful place. Enjoy :)
------------- July 2015 - first big trip (2 weeks) to Cornwall...it rained a lot!
Hello, we live in Scotland and i would say the long trip will be made much easier with the views you will encounter. Time will fly bye, we are fairly close to Loch Lomond and are always blown away with the views, but Glencoe is something else.
So go for it and enjoy & will take home lots of memories which you will never forget.
We also have a long journey ahead, leaving from Glasgow next week and travelling down to Somerset ( Burnham on Sea ) with 4 boys ages 13,11,10 & 3. Think i will need a few red bulls. Enjoy your holiday and have a safe journey.
