I have camped 4 times actually 5, if you count New Yearthis year so far. the last one was fantastic weather. The previous, was a mixture.
All my tents are fibre glass poled. Never had any problems with any of them in extreme weather. You should expect some flexing, that's how they work. Too taut, they will snap and the fly sheet will rip. Never had a peg pull up either, even with wire pegs, which I used on my Vango Oregon 400. My second or third ever trip, was at Eisteddfa campsite, it blew a hoolie the first night and lashed down, first experience of extreme weather. Did research before going camping. One of the first advice I found, was to double peg, the pegs crossed each other ànd the peg driven into the ground, so it didn't twist. These were wired pegs. You know what, not one of those pegs pulled out, because of extreme weather. Not bad for a novice back then.
Even my small dome tents, never budge.
I resorted to rock pegs, as those wire pegs don't work in rocky or hard, when discovered that when I went camping in the lake district.
Now I have a Nevada M, it did great at Red Bank, some of you know how bad it can get. It survived, even side on, with a lot of flexing, but those poles did the job, not one split pole.

We put our tent up in the garden for a trial run last week (new tent). I was being anal about wanting all the guy ropes pegged in properly.
Caused a few raised words between hubby and I, as he was insisting we didn't need them as tent is only in garden (quite sheltered) and no wind forecast.
I put guy ropes out anyway - cause a woman always wins and in the night got to say - very loudly - I told you so, cause the wind was nearly gale force and we could see it buffeting the tent. Tent stood firm, thanks to guy ropes. It has definitely been the windiest summer I can remember for a long time :-(

We've just got back today from Manorafon campsite in North Wales. We got there about 2pm on Saturday and it was entertaining to say the least putting up our Kampa Croyde in the high winds, we only just managed it to be honest and thank god we had rock pegs, we usually use V pegs at the corners to hold it down while we erect the tent, these V pegs were destroyed within minutes as the tent tried to lift off. The rock pegs were rock solid though and the Croyde didn't budge for the rest of the weekend!

glad it went okay :) had a bit of wind so far, but nothing too major - I so hope our tent holds up! always try to pitch bum to wind now and have always pegged in all our guy lines - they wouldn't have them if they weren't needed. Seen a few tents without all the guys pegged in - wondered why they don't bother - especially on the ones with ventilation?
Ive also seen people keeping their inflatable tents down with ratchet straps :)

My last tent (Vango Samara 600) got destroyed by the wind back in May.
I have just returned from The Open Golf Championship in Fife where I was camped for 6 nights. The wind last Friday night and all through Saturday was 40-50+ mph (as well as with gusts!) and my new tent (Vango Asante - steel poles) didn't budge. I can't believe what a difference steel poles make. The only thing I had to do was tighten a couple of the Line-Loks on the guylines on the Saturday morning.
I now have full confidence in the new tent and won't worry about the wind in future unless a hurricane is forecast!
