Does everyone have a ' packing list' that they use to go camping to ensure that they have anything?
Although we are trying to scale down on what we take our 'list' seems to be growing and growing..

spreadsheets?! goodness me!
I have a list and review the evening before but lots of things make it to the van the morning of that aren't on the list! oooops

Yup, I have several lists.
1. 5 people camping = big tent
2. 4 people camping = big tent
3. 3 people camping = big/normal
4. 2 people camping = big/normal
5. Quickie - 2-3 nights (+ items erased if 4,3,2)
6. Medium - 3-5 nights - ditto -
7. Longer - ditto -
8. Dog list
We mainly use lists 4 - 8 now but it's nice when we have to use the others.
We camped for many years in France in a Keycamp/Eurosites type tent which contains almost everything you would ever need. So when we decided to get our own tent, I thought back to what we had then and also looked in their brochure to double check. There were some things that we used to add but on the whole it was all there. Things changed as the children got older but the basics remained and now they're all grown up, they decide what they take and we take the other stuff.
It's rare we go off the list and the worst thing is to chuck stuff in at the last minute - mostly, this means you're just packing extra stuff - obviously if you have forgotten something, that doesn't count.
Our lists goes over 2 pages in 3 columns and what is in what box - makes it easier for next time. It also includes things like wellies or sun screen - all dependant and what's in our wash kit, any tablets/inhalers, books, cd's, travel info - you name it - it's on the list - dare I say this (perhaps I shouldn't) but it is very rare that we forget any thing.
We also have our "menu" and things we need, condiments, tins etc..
I print these out and then use a highlighter pen to cross through when it is IN the box, or there ready to go into the car. I just hate having to buy if I have it at home. and no I am not OCD, I just like to be organised, especially where campings concerned!!!!
------------- May - Dorset
July - Saundersfoot
September - S. Wales
October - S. Wales
We have pretty much got things down to a fine art now, we have a list for what goes in the car Kamie RoofBox, and Fiamma UltraBox 3 which is on the Trailer.
Then there are the 9 "Really Useful 42lt Box's" they have there own listing with box's numbered 1 through to 9.
Then there is the list for all the large bulky stuff, that goes in the Trailer and or car.
The list is more about knowing where stuff is packed, and then were it all goes when we break camp.
At 10 pages of typed A4 the list has remained constant over the last few years.
We only go camping once each year, and are away for 3 weeks each July, I guess it is a bit sad to have such a list, but we would be lost without it.

I agree with the condiments etc.. why buy kitchen cupboard items when they are sat in the kitchen at home?

I have a list that I meticulously check off on the morning we go camping. It includes absolutely everything, from duct tape to my car keys. Nothing gets checked off until it's in the car.
It's made easier by the fact that everything that can fit in the boot now stays in there so half of it, I can check off permanently.
Nothing goes in the car if it's not on the list, so no extras allowed. The list is very comprehensive anyway so there's nothing else needed to be honest.
------------- 2019 trips booked so far:
Easter - Red Shoot, New Forest
May - Secret Campsite, Sussex
I have a spreadsheet on Google Docs, so the wife and I can update or view it independently. If I didn't have a list, I would definitely forget heaps of items every trip! As items are loaded up or put downstairs, they are highlighted in yellow.
I also have a tab where I record the weight of our gas bottle, so at the start of each trip we know roughly what percentage is left in it.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
