So... to cut a long and boring story short (about getting on property ladder and current financial clement blah blah blah) we ( myself, hubby and our two children/4 months and 3yrs) are think of living in our trailer tent for serval months come next March jumping around campsites surrounding our home town ( where we can seek warmth and hot baths from parents houses and friends if need be), in hope of getting a deposit together.
Has anyone done anything like or doing this? If so any tips, things we need to research /buy etc... Or is this bonkers?
There's a story on here somewhere about the same thing, ithe tent they lived in was a teepee, it was a great story. I'm sure someone wil be along soon to put you on the right track.

would be a lnog old haul, ad at least 2 months after you have actually saved for completion, by which time desperation would have set in and buy the first thing you see.
I was just about to say the same thing. It was a fab thread; a family living in a bell tent for a few months. It was a great set up and the kids enjoyed themselves.

Not something I would like to do long term and if you like your creature comforts then I wouldn't recommend it. Remember its not going to be just like summer camping You have to think how you are going to feel come January if the temp drops to below zero or it's constantly lashing down with rain.... hang on that was this summer.
But seriously if your adaptable then it may be doable but there are so many things to consider, for example can you face a night of no sleep in a flapping tent all night and then still get up, pack the kids off to school and still perform at work all day, before coming home to a cold tent and preparing dinner on a two ring stove in your bedroom.
That being said the family mentioned in the other thread seemed to thrive on the experience and a friend of my Dad's lived for several years in an old army mess tent, so it can be done.
March to late May early June is still cold.
I just ran a quick check where I live. I have a weather station that keeps logs. The average temperature in May this year was just 9 degrees and in March it was around 6 degrees.
You would have to take into account your children's health, particularly at their age, and will spend a lot of money in heating, even with a log burner, as you will have to purchase dry wood. As an adult, you may be able to cope, but child mortality is a risk you don't want to take. I certainly would not risk it, and I have camped out in the dead of winter with freezing temperatures.
Your own health will be severely strained too, no matter what tent you use.
Personally I would think not a good idea, if you really must do something along those lines then think caravan or mobile home, the tent later when the weather picks up. Either way it is going to cost you a lot, in terms of health and sanity.
You will also face social workers from child welfare who may want to take your children away, if they think they are in jeopardy.
Its pointless extolling the virtues of camping as a home in this country, when you have young children, as the authorities will no doubt stick their unwanted noses in at some point.
You will have to research the legal ramifications of having no fixed abode too.
These are things you need to be aware of, before you embark on anything of this nature.
