Hi everyone camping easter weekend andcampsite at hausker uses payment cards for electric, having never used these before how much do most people put on daily, thanks
Depends on the process.
We used a card meter at Beechcroft Farm, but they offered a refund for unused credit.
You can also "read the meter", so if it looks like you may run out in the night, you can go and top it up in time beforehand.
On their advice, we purchased a £5 card (+£10 returnable deposit for the actual card itself) when we arrived on the Friday lunchtime.
Had the fan heater on for 2-3 hours each evening, and a good hour or so each morning. Bit of charging, and a leccy light for 3-4 hours each evening.
Packed up and left 48 hours later... Got our £10 deposit back, plus something like £1.40 back (from memory?) for unused credit.
So £3.60 ish for a two nighter. Cheapest yet, by far, as we probably pay around that per night, on average, anywhere else!
Not used a meter anywhere else though, so no idea whether they all refund unused credit?
As an aside, I'm pretty sure the law states that they (the camp site) are not allowed to make a profit on actual electricity used... but that doesn't mean to say they can't charge you for using their supply post, hence many sites charging £4 per night, even if you only use a quids worth. (Obviously, you could also use a fiver's worth, with tellies/XBoxes and the like, in which case the site would lose out!)
IMO, meter's are by far the fairest way for all concerned!
I like payment cards as I feel they are fairer. You pay for what you use which is often cheaper than a standard fee the campsite would apply to every nights stay.
A few years ago a fiver kept me going for a week on the only campsite (Benone Tourist Complex in Northern Ireland) I've ever come across that offers the system.
I used a Halogen heater and charged phones and cameras so admittedly not heavy use.
That is an interesting question because I may be going to a campsite with meters shortly and was wondering how much to put in the meter. It would really bug me if I put a fiver in and didn't use it all and they didn't give refunds
Many thanks for the replies, i,ll just get topped up as i go along, although wife as just informed me shes taking an electric blanket due to the bad forecast and thats something weve never used before, so dont know what that will use lol remember the time many camps ago that the site electric kept tripping, the neighbour in next tent said to me was i using anything i shouldnt, no i said but it could be the sunbed ! I think he believed me lol
Thanks, sounds like we can have blanket on as well as other luxuries like a travel kettle lol we must all be mad! Getting excited about being warm lol crazy campers!
