We are currently "enjoying" a lot of persistent rain and 45mph gusts whilst camping in our outwell tomcat + awning. The tent has been great and fully pegged out has been stable in the wind whilst others have been having some issues (the inflatable is proving itself)
The awning has a leak at the front on the seal and as its only its second year I'll take it up with the shop we got it from. But I'm also getting a leak where the awning zips onto the main tent. As this is only protected by a thin plastic strip and a 2" flap on the tent side I'm not surprised water gets through in this wind and the flaps are not fixed down.
Does anyone have any suggestions to stop / get a similar issue ? (I assume I'm not being too reasonable accepting this issue)
Front awnings will never be fully 100% waterproof as they have to attach somehow to the tent, in condition like you have suggested it's going to happen, saying that I always spray all the zips on any tent I use with a waterproofing spray, it helps them run smoothly and also helps to dispel water from the zip. A tin of spay and some seam sealant should be in any campers kit. Again a quick blast along the seam where you have a leak will fix it nicely. The weather we have had over this weekend is not what family tents are designed for but it all depends on your expectations

Thanks Cross - I will invest in some seam sealant and give the waterproofing spay a try.
My expectations were family camping in glorious sunshine, long lazy days and well behaved children sadly not the hand I am always dealt.
Hopefully this weeks weather is an edge case as we are firmly Summer-ish campers.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
