Hi everyone.
New here and looking for advice. Unable to go away as have a severely autistic daughter. Howver we have decided to give camping a go (as have two other kids and it's not fair on them)
Firstly I wanted a large tent to give the kids space,so after scouring for weeks for something cheap (incase daughter hates it ) we found an apollo 16 for £50. Absolutely over the moon. Other half has been to get it this morning. Now the size has only just occurred to us,4.7m w x 7m l. Are we going to be restricted on sites ? Due to being too big ? We are on the wirral and need sites not too far away incase our little one has meltdowns and we have to cone home. Does anyone know of any sites who will accommodate this size ?
Thanks in advance x
I think you should be OK. It will fit on a standard C&CC pitch. You will find some sites with smaller pitches but if you ring round am sure many will accommodate you
I'm thinking you'll probably be wanting quiet sites so there's not too much going on for your daughter to have to contend with, if so you'll be fine on simple farmers field type sites. The kind of site you won't fit on is for example Haven sites.
My tent is 4.5 x 7m and I haven't had a problem - some sites will have small pitches, but they are likely to also have larger pitches available if you ask, although you probably will need to be booking them earlier
I'd agree with the majority.
4.7m wide may be a tad over average, but nothing extraordinary.
7m long is as average as family tents come.
With the possible exception of holiday park type sites (as mentioned above), you should be fine at most, or certainly many, camp sites.
Always best to ring and chat first though, if there is any doubt. Not met or spoken to a miserable/surly/ignorant camp site yet!!
It depends on where your going to be camping , but that's a big tent - remember your guy lines extend at least a meter wider than that in all directions so your liking at 6.7 x 9m....
That's big!.
Perhaps it's just the sites I go to but many of those don't even have pitches that size.
The others charge for a " super-size " pitch.
It's a good idea on the one hand to give the children room, but it will have drawbacks too. Large tents are also hard to heat in cold weather.
I wish you good luck!.

We have five children and used to use a very similar tent to the one you have, never had any problems getting pitched on sites, but we did always call beforehand to see if they had a large pitch.
If you try to go for sites where they have no marked pitches or lots of secluded areas, or a really big field where you can choose your own pitch, it is far easier to find an area where your tent will fit well.
That might also make the difference if your daughter does have a bit of a meltdown, you might still be able to deal with it and not need to come home again, which would be a shame.
Hope you all have a wonderful time,
Jane.
