A heavy wool blanket, you can get them from charity shops quite cheap now that not many people use them.

carpet or we take a plastic bed. Our dog tends to prefer her bed in uk and carpet floor abroad. (pictures on blogspot)

we use a dog rug

similar to this and a pvc backed blanket to wipe the dogs paws on.The mat is also nice to stand on and warm and soft on the feet. both are machine washable if that helps.
