Hello thought I would introduce myself, I'm paul from Blackpool and we have just bought our first tent, a berghaus air 6, and we cannot wait to get started, has anyone got one of these tents ? Just after advice on porch/add ons ? The porch to match this was £240 so we didn't get it but was wondering if anyone had any views or ideas as to wether we need one or is there a cheaper alternative, can't wait to get started 👍👍

Hi Paul and welcome to the site!

I've no idea about the Berghaus, just would suggest that as it's your first tent, it's maybe best to use it a couple of times and then judge what you need and what you don't. That's a philosophy most of us on here apply to all things camping, and we still make lists on the way home relating to what we used and found useful and what was just taking up room and not needed next time (plus what we think would make for a better next trip).

Splashing out £240 on a porch you might not actually get on with is a bit of a risk, at this point, when it's all new to you.

I'd suggest you have a go at practice pitching, before you go, so you can work out what to do and how to set the tent up to your liking. Saves time (and potential arguments) when you do it for real. Plus, you can get a hosepipe on the tent and check it for leaks, rather than leaving things to chance.

Best of luck with it!

Hello

I agree, wait and see. Lots of things to consider: how many of you, how will your camping style evolve, have you got room in the car, would a tarp suit you etc etc.

There are a couple of threads here about use of tarps, one is called Tarp Origami, I think.

Some people zip themselves 'indoors ' in an evening and a big porch suits them, we sit out under our tarp in all but the most lashing rain and gales.

Also, you may get one reduced at the end of August.

You'll know, after the first break, whether or not you want the porch.

We usually go away and decide we want a different tent!

And so it begins...

I've always found porches more trouble than they are worth as they rarely stay attached to the tent in bad weather.

I note Outwell are using zips on this years range which would suggest they have identified the same issue
