Any advice please?
We usually use EHU when camping due to my husband needing a sleep apnea machine at night. We are going to a festival and cannot use EHU, we have done this before and while he is ok it does make him very tired.
Is it possible to get a portable power supply for use for 2 nights?
I have heard of leisure batteries, is this the sort of thing that is required? Anything I should definately avoid?
Thanks.
I don't know what power an apnea machine would consume but would something like this work? It has a 230 volt outlet suitable for powering a small TV or fridge it says.
I think you can get something similar a lot cheaper. I used one years ago to power a 12v TV for a couple of days in an old caravan I had which didn't have EHU.
I am not sure how long it would last using the 230v outlet but I would expect an apnea machine to use very little power.
The CPAP machine should give some electrical data which we can help you with if you can post what you have.
My guess would be around 3 amps at 12 volt as an average. It will go up and down as the pressure varies to keep you breathing. It usually lowers the pressure until it is just enough. Humidification or heating will increase it significantly.
Some can use 12volt directly. If so there will be a 12volt socket on it. That would be the preferred option.
If it's 230 volt only you will need an invertor which changes 12 volt DC power into 230 volt AC power. Unfortunately invertors do waste some of the power so will give a shorter battery life than a 12 volt machine.
3 Amp at 12 volt will use 24 Ampere Hours (AH) per night over 8 hours. A 110 AH leisure battery might last 2 or 3 nights on a single charge.
A solar panel; will recharge it Your looking for about 300 watt hours per night so at 50% efficiency, even a 40 watt panel may do it. That would hopefully keep you going all summer.
