My back is not without it's issues, but I never seem to have any problems on a basic air bed, I think the trouble for many people is that they don't inflate them correctly, probably too hard in many cases so that it doesn't have much give.

I've suffered the perhaps inevitable deflation problems, and until it's so deflated that you contact the ground underneath I don't really have any problem with it. But a rock hard one, is really not comfortable. There is a 'sweet spot' where inflation is just perfect for comfort I find.

At home I prefer a fairly firm conventional mattress, but really don't like memory foam in any form, can't stand that 'sinking into a marshmallow' sensation!

We have the Kampa Kip 10cm double and its amazing. Previously used double air bed and found it gave me hip pain (onlu just the other side of 30 myself!)
Its like a home mattress. Yes it is quite big when rolled up.
