Wow I never thought my post from 2019 would make a return!
Just to clarify, my original issue was with wind breaks being used as a land grab on unmarked pitches. I tend to camp on non electric open fields, where you can pitch where you like.
The site in question wouldn't let me pitch a gazebo or tarp unless I paid an extra fee, yet the other tent in question was able to cordon off an area larger than what a tarp would have taken but with no additional charge, perhaps I was just jealous they had found a loop hole in the rules!
I have no problem with windbreaks being set up in marked pitches or being used sensibly to direct the wind from a tents entrance, or to break the wind (childish snigger).
I would just add, this isn't me but some people might not want to be a social butterfly, they might want to keep themselves to themselves for whatever reason and windbreaks help with that. We all camp for our own reasons and if it's not bothering anyone else why does it seem to offend so many people. Camping should be done the way you enjoy it along as it doesn't impact on others.
