Hello everyone. Following our first trip we struggled to get tent small enough to get back into the bag it came in. I have seen posts where a number of people have said they have bought new bigger bags - rather than spend loads of time and effort trying to get the tent back to the factory packed size and i think this is a good idea (especially as we are tearing our hair out trying to reduce the size unrolling and re-rolling LOL.
my question is can anyone tell me where i can get a durable xxl large bag to repack the tent in. after this mornings efforts at reducing the size and following the utube packing video the dimensions are now 80x90x20.
should we try again or does anyone know where i might get a large bag to put it in - we are in UK?
kind regards to all
If that still doesnt work you might find a bag the right size here. I bought new bag from this company and found them very efficient and delivery reasonably fast. I emailed with a query before I bought and they responded quickly and were very helpful. https://www.campingspares.co.uk/3882-tent-bags
We use the Isabella awning bags, for our tent, when at home I can compress it into the Small bag, and then put it into the other two bags, this helps protect the tent whilst in storage and or transit.
When we leave the campsite after a fortnight, the cotton canvas has fluffed up a little, so would not go in the Small bag without a fight, most times it will go in the Medium bag, and I guess if we ever had to pack up wet, it would have to go in the Large bag, to be dried later.
We also use the Isabella pole bag, for both the main tent poles and kitchen tent poles.
The bags supplied by Cabanon are quite bad, basically they are just potato sacks, not even a draw string never mind a zip, you would expect more a firm like Cabanon, but I guess making tent bags is not there thing.
MOst of the bell tent sellers such as boutique bell tents or camping sell their bags separately, and I have used them in 2 differing sizes.
Also surplus sites, such as Military Mart do loads of large bags for not a lot of money....for example the deployment bag for £8...big and very strong.
Thank you for all replies - hadnt even thought it might be bigger after rain - DOH!
am hoping not to experience that too soon. will check out all the sites for advise. kind regards
Another vote for Isabella awning and pole bags. Their top zip makes life a bit easier (roll the tent up then put bag over the top before it has chance to expand).
£15.00 holdall of the market. Used it for holiday clothing till it got a bit battered then use it for 6 berth kampa croyde 6. Fits perfect without a struggle.
We had same problem - got one of those cheap laundry bags - did not look flash like a posh tent bag, but no more struggling or arguments as we tried to squeeze it in a bag too small - every time stacked it in garage smiled at how cheap and easy a fix it was
You don't say what tent you have (or am I missing something?).
I don't think I have ever had a tent that wouldn't go back in it's bag. In fact most tents come with oversized bags for that reason.
I am wondering if you are rolling it wrongly and trapping air inside.
Mostly for weight reasons I separate the poles from the tent and carry them separately. The poles have their own bag.
Very basically, when rolling up a tent make sure all the doors are open including the bedroom pod. Fold it from side to side until you have a width slightly narrower than the bag. Then start rolling as tightly as possible from the back towards the front so that any air inside is squeezed out through the doors. You should be able to roll it plenty small enough to get it back into the bag especially without the poles wrapped inside.
Finally, don't try to lift the tent into the bag...cover the tent with the bag and then roll the tent into it while on the ground.
