We're new to camping - and trying to buy all the equipment we need ready for holidays next year.
We bought a table from Decathlon that folds and includes 4 stools that pack inside it. However the stools aren't very comfortable and we realised is there any point in it when we will be buying comfortable chairs anyway - which we could use with a table.
Anyone got any advice - do you tend to just buy a folding table by itself and then add your own comfy chairs?
Comfy chairs make the difference between enjoying camping and enduring camping.
Over the years we have been balancing comfortable with size/space both for packing and tent living area.
You can always find a variety of tables to use but if you are not comfortable, the enjoyment of camping can dissappear.
It's a rare thing to find a chair comfortable enough for lounging, which is also practical enough for sitting at a table to eat!
This forum is full of such tales of woe!
Whatever you do, leave the stools inside the table, and take them anyway, so you at least have them as back up.
We have the same set up, and the stools work fine for us, (two adults) on the rare occasion we sit at the dining table for half an hour, and we use them a lot in all honestly, either for sat putting shoes/socks on, grabbing a 5 min break whilst setting up, and even sat having a light breakfast and/or snack/sandwich, whilst using our mini "coffee table". Almost every tea break is taken whilst sat on those stools!
Our loungers don't usually see the light of day until very late afternoon/early evening, but our stools are out from start to finish, and used a lot.
Best of luck finding a chair suitable for both dining and lounging... and report back if you find anything!
We use Lafuma Camp Chairs to eat, although Mrs TimCESmith finds them comfortable enough for her not to use her 'proper' chair. They pack very flat.
For lounging around, I find Coleman Sling chairs are kind to my back and pack down very tightly. At the extreme end, I had a 'significant' birthday recently and my brother gave me the new Helinox Playa chair, which costs as much as my first car and packs to the size of a kitten.
we have large recliner chairs for general lounging about in the tent, but they're no use when you want to sit at a table to eat, so for dining purposes we bought these and they work perfectly...when not in use as dining stools, they can easily be folded away or utilized as handy side tables or as a step to take things out of or put things into our roofbox...
We bought a table that came with 4 small stools from Lidl, they all folded away within the table, so take up minimum space, the table legs are also adjustable in length which is ideal for our youngest child. I had a quick look on the web and Aldi sell a similar thing, see the Link
Our set up is a Lafuma California table and a pair of Lafuma Champ Elips Padded chairs, got them back in 2008 and the set up has worked fine.
We did start off with the Lafuma Louisiana table, but found it to be to small, so that got converted to a vanity unit, by cutting a hole in it, and installing a wash basin, c/w tap and running water using a whale pump and two 25lt water containers, the unit now forms part of our in tent en-suite.
We went down the folding table and stool route many years ago...didnt work very well for us! The carrying capacity of your car usually decides what you can or cant have. I am spoilt in that department having a pickup truck and over the years have ended up with a very comfy set-up for 2 people. Most of my favourite accessories have come from Costco--including table and chairs.Very reasonable prices if you have access to a card.(and live near to a branch)
