Decided to buy a portable toilet so we can go camping in April and even when camp facilities open again it will save that walk to toilets in the night and first thing in the morning so good investment. I spent hours researching which were best and Thetford come out on top with Dometic close second, now I have short listed the brands decided the piston flush would be easier to use so now have to work out what size waste tank because some reviews say don’t go less than 20 ltr but the difference in price between a 10 ltr waste tank and a 12 or 21 ltr is considerable so my question is when reviews say you need at least 20 ltr are they meaning for a family or do you think 10 ltr would be acceptable as there are only 2 of us ?

Has anyone got a 10 ltr and do they find it ok or is it a pain to be forever emptying it, as I cannot find how much water is used each time you flush it is difficult to decide.

Any help much appreciated

What you gain in convenience, you pay back in the carrying & cleaning! 20l = 20kg, and carting a full cassette can be sloppy. We have luxury of a van these days, but only use the lav at night just cos of the pain to empty it. We have a trolley to tow it too, it's still a sh!t job lol, and fills up too quickly. Decided it's actually less hassle to carry one motion at a time than 40 at once 😂💩

Thanks for your advice, I was initially thinking bigger waste tank less time I will spend emptying it but then I had a light bulb moment and realised big tank too heavy to empty so I bought Thetford 345 which has 12 litre waste tank.
