Back in the single life again so I'm gonna through caution to the wind and start getting out and about camping and enjoying the great outdoors and hopefully meet some new faces along the way.
I've only really camped a stones throw from the car before so I think I will try this again to start with and then venture onto more wilderness type camping through time.
Would be good to hear of anyone who is in the same position and would like to start off in the same way.
Will probably go for first wee camp around middle of may
Just want to get out and about in the fresh air and nature, a wee refreshment at night and a wee cooked breakfast in the morning while chilling in nature.
Welcome to the forum Davieboy1980, I am not in the same position as you mention but just thought a would wish you all the best for your new camping adventure.
I have cycle camped not far from your area, when my late father was alive he lived in Annan, and I used to cycle from near Manchester taking three over nights along the way to get there, there is something quite special about camping with minimal kit on your own, of course you have the car, which means that you can take a few luxuries with you.
Thank you that's very nice of you to wish me good luck.
And your welcome to join me anytime. Going to try and get a couple of days away during the week soon. Hopefully around the 14th/15th june
Very kind of you to give me an invite Davieboy, but the only camping I do these days is when we go of to France for three weeks, but due to COVID-19 we have not been able to do that since 2019 and it will be 2022 before we can go again, we had booked for this year, and the campsite owner has honoured our deposit.
When I use to cycle up to Annan, I once stopped at Dalston Hall campsite, in fact that time I was with my friend Billy, he was testing out his latest bike a Rohloff equipped Surly Big Dummy, but that’s another story.
We met a number of solo campers on that campsite, some foreign doing the LEJOG, on bicycles and just some random solo car campers, I in particular remember one old boy, must have been in his 80’s recently widowed just wanting to get a break.
Sadly Dalston Hall no longer accepts tents, and to be fair it’s been 15 years since I was last there.
Hope its sooner you can get back to france.
I'll hopefully get away next week or following but will stay away from lochs for now as its going to be midge season
If you're on Facebook try joining Paul Messner's group, lots of wild campers on there - more so than on here.
If you fancy going to a campsite in your area then Drumroamin south of Wigtown is a lovely site and, unlike many, they are welcoming tents and have facilities open.
Hi - just to say I went camping at North Rhinns campsite in 2018 (in SW Scotland). It was one of the best campsites I've been to. I'm not sure if it's still going now but I hope so.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
