We left Cornwall 2 weeks ago and I would say that it would take several weeks of torrential rain to make any impact on the ground. It was rock hard and bone dry due to the drought when we were there. We had a few days of heavy rain towards the end of our stay and an hour after it stopped you would never have known it had rained. The thirsty ground just soaked it in and went back to being bone dry.
We are currently in the Lake District and even here in the incessant rain, the grass is not boggy at the minute.
We got back yesterday from St Ives Bay. From Friday evening and all day Saturday it poured. We were lucky to get a few hours break yesterday morning to pack up, but it resumed heavier than ever as we left the campsite.
Alot of puddles, pitches we're draining well enough but the forecast wasn't good for the week.
So glad we went to France for June and part of July! Good temperatures and only 4 days when it rained
We used to go camping when first married but wet and windy weather drove us to a caravan. Had some good times though.
It was tipping down earlier in Shropshire! have work to do in the garden and a shed to paint, doesn't look good at the moment
So much for the heatwave they were predicting.
------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
I've a few friends and family scattered around Devon and Cornwall, whenever I'm heading that way, I'll contact them and inevitably enquire about the weather and ask 'is it raining, or has it been wet', the replies are unrepeatable here, but start with the letters F and O and then question my parentage! That seems to be the norm at all times of the year!
When there and I've commented on it being rather damp even the more gentile ladies reply 'what the F... do you expect, it's the F...ing west country!'
I NEVER venture that way without expecting a good soaking, and I've rarely been wrong! If I want to go somewhere with better prospects of dry weather, I go to the Lake District!
