Unless you're going backpacking or have a pitch miles from an access point then you should get the biggest tent you can erect by yourself / between the two of you, inkena you don't have to go stupid large, but on the cheaper end something like a eurohike sandero 4 would make a massive diffence to having an enjoyable experience.
Little tents are fine and all, but more suited as a base to come back to to just sleep in at a festival or something or just as overnight shelter along a trail / hike or whatever.
If you're using a tent as a home from home, lounging about etc then you really want one you can at least have seats in and comfortably sit on, or even better one head height you can stand up in, it makes a massive difference, not just in terms doing every day stuff, but a little dome tent in the rain is hell if you're stuck in it
With seperate bedrooms a large inside lounging / communal area and a covered porch area or a tarp to put up for some outisde space for when it's raining.
