Hi, I'm looking to buy a camping stove and getting really confused about what gas cylinder, regulator and hose I'm going to need for it, thinking butane rather than propane? Stove I'm looking at in pic, any advice much appreciate, thanks

Welcome to UKCS.

Butane is fine in the warmer months, however, it does not burn well at low temperatures, found that out the hard way when I camped in December 2009 over the New Year weekend.

I would advise using Propane instead.

HOWEVER, for my own money, I swear by the Coleman 424 Dual Fuel 2-burner stove.

I regretted selling my old one when I switched unit to the van so much that I recently bought a new one to replace it.

With Coleman Fuel or similar, even unleaded petrol, it can be used all year round.

It does not have a grill which is fine by me as my preferred cooking method is pan-frying.

I would advise using smaller pans with this stove if one would like to cook on both burners simultaneously on the Coleman 424.

A photo of my beloved Coleman 424 in use when I was a tenter for your information.

As others have mentioned in the past, similar stoves like the one in your original post often do not function well.

Hope this helps.

I've got a Coleman FyreChampion in the garage, very good quality and I converted it to use mapp gas 😁 was too big and heavy for us though. We use the cheapo butane gas canister stove now (thousands on ebay)

I bought a tent at Halfords once, I was booked to catch a ferry at Dover on a Sunday and the night before I discovered I didn't know where my tent poles were. I realised I could cycle from the station to Halfords, buy a tent and then race to the ferry port. I had no idea what tent I had bought until I put it up in France and they shut the ferry's bow door as I slipped aboard.
It turned out to be quite a nice tent.
Halfords are a car parts store, although they sell bikes and camping kit you'll get a better choice of kit at a specialist camping store.

Everyone likes toast, with butter and honey or strawberry jam it makes a sweet and warmng breakfast, but the grills on camping stoves never fulfill the dream. A grill adds weight and bulk to a camping stove and you'll find yourself standing on a cold morning waiting for bread that never quite fully toasts. Get lighter, less bulky and cheaper double burner stove without a grill and do some fried bread with your breakfast bacon and eggs.

Go to your local camping shop, choose a stove, place it on the counter and ask them to fetch a small Propane Calor Gas cylinder plus a regulator and hose. Domonstrate incompetence and ask them to fit the hose and regulator, it's why you've gone to a camping specialist. Get hubby to hide at this moment.

I use a Campingaz Xcelerate stove, double burner and no grill, it's powerful and largely keeps out the wind. If it is windy take down tables and use them as wind breaks.

Having had numerous stoves incluidng Coleman multifuel if just starting out I'd go for a simple Campingaz Bistro Elite 'suitcase' stove and four gas canisters. Costs about £20.

There are cheaper models, but Campingaz is a well respected brand, buy cheap buy twice may apply, so saving £3-4 on an unknown brand isn't worth it.

Get the bottle you want to use, then the hose and the regulator for the bottle. If you buy a Campingaz stove it will have a Campingaz regulator. this is ok if you plan to travel aborad but you can get a regulator for Calor which may work out cheeper
