I am new to camping and this will be my 3rd time camping albeit out of season mostly but I currently have a Khyam Delemare 6.0 huge tent especially when I have the canopy on. My question is..
While I love it dearly I want to go for the 8.0 which I’ve actually purchased already. (Impulsive I know) I know a lot of people may say why do you need any bigger but I have children and I like the idea we all have our own space in there for them to run around etc.
From your experience are there campsites that accommodate tents of this size? We’re talking 6 meters wide just under 8 meters long that’s without guy ropes. My current tent spans 8 meters long and around 4.25m wide. So I’m essentially increasing the overall footprint by a bear meter and a half in width.
This isn’t in anyway a look at me stunt but I want to keep the tent I just what to make sure I can pitch it and that there are campsites that will accommodate such tents? I would like to think there are bigger tents than mine!
For Camping and Caravanning Club (C&CC), one can search for their sites with what used to be called 'Jumbo' pitches with or without EHU for larger units over 5m x 9m.
They don't use that term anymore, just describe the pitches as pitches for larger units. However, they appear to be keeping the symbols 'J' and 'JWE'.
I would suggest for you try C&CC first by applying a filter for larger pitches with or without EHU to find potential sites that are suitable to your needs, then come back to UKCS to check for their reviews.
UKCS Campsite Search facility does not have a filter for larger pitches for tents unfortunately.

6 meters wide and 8 meters long is the same size as my caravan with the awning on it! so yes there are plenty of places that will take you, but to make life easier why not join the camping and caravanning club and then you can use their cs's which are small sites of 5 caravans and then a few tents depending on the size of the site. the facilities will vary from site to site
Or search for a campsite with unmarked pitches, ie, a field. Might be a bit tricky if you want EHU though.
I just randomly browsed at a site I know at Hollingworth Lake, their pics show such a field so I'm sure there are some about.
My favourite campsite, namely Birchwood Tourist Park, near Wareham, Dorset has pitches for larger tents, as mentioned in their website, and I have seen them in the rally field, some with EHU.

We have an Outwell Woodlake 7 ATC. that's a big tent, bit not as big as your new tent. The smallest pitch we will for on is around 6mtrs by 10mtrs. When we go to Cornwall we always have a jumbo pitch which is 15mtrs by 10mtrs. More than big enough for us and for your tent. We have been to a couple of smaller sites and normally if you talk to the site on booking the will normally advise you on pitch sizes etc. good luck in your search and happy camping.
Morning everyone and especially to DK who came back to message!
Thank you for your input this has reassured me some as I silly me didn’t take into consideration bigger tent different rules. But a pitch size of 15 by 10 meters is more than enough. I was under the illusion a tent size is sold because it fits all so to speak but not sure if campsites are behind on the times but tents generally are getting bigger.
There are a good number of private sites out there they can/will accommodate your tent... but also plenty that can't/won't!
The trick in this situation is firstly, find the site you like the look of...
Then call them directly before booking, to enquire/discuss. It'll clear up any doubts, and ensure you set off skipping and humming a happy tune, safe in the knowledge that your tent, your guylines, and I assume your car, will all fit.
In my experience, I'd say 95% of campsite owners* are happy to take the time to answer 'phone calls (or call you back) and answer your questions.
*In this instance, remember it's their business/livelihood, so it's in their interest to be helpful/approachable. They aren't just paid staff who can't be bothered!
More time consuming. Less stressful!
It worked for us, when we had a big 6 berth tent + tarp + large people carrier. For full holidays, and short-notice weekend breaks.
For the record, we've never been members of any clubs (to date), and my signature below shows it wasn't just for one fortnight a year!

Awww, thanks! I frequent UKCS a lot!
'Normal' pitch size for C&CC is 5m x 9m, and I believe this excludes the guys.
It is not that easy for campsite to rearrange their pitches, due to the need to move their EHU pillars, hedges/dividers between pitches, and permanent pitch markers such as numbered bricks cemented into the ground.
Some sites have rally fields that are less restricted on tent size and how it should be pitched, such as the one at Birchwood Tourist Park.
Sites also need to consider other trends, such as the increase demand for hardstanding pitches with services especially for motorhomes, resulting in a longer and more profitable season for campsites, at the expense of grass pitches with EHU.
All IMHO.

We used to have a huge 'tri lobed' (think it was 9 berth, and can't remember dimensions) tent, which was MASSIVELY wasteful of ground space, and we found that difficult to find pitches for, got rid of it in favour of a conventional tunnel tent after a couple of uses.
Often overlooked, you need a good metre or more (1.5m or more if bracing against strong winds) on all sides beyond the footprint (stated dimensions) of a tent for the guy line pegging, that often pushes you outside of available pitch sizes!
You are usually expected to park you car 'within' your pitch boundary too, otherwise it'll likely be in a remote parking area.
Actual pitch sizes are not to any particular rule or guidance it seems, so it's at the discretion of the site to some degree, closest to a rule seems to be the 6m between main units fire break. Some sites it's a free for all 'pitch where/how you like', others have defined pitches. If there is EHU, that often dictates pitch size, and remember the longest EHU cable you can buy is 25m, most are only 15m or less, and jointed extension cables are often banned (or should be!!!) on safety grounds (the joints are not waterproof). Sites often have standard sized and a limited number of 'large' pitches, so although a site may technically be able to accommodate you, they may not have a vacancy for your sized tent!
You are going to be limited in all likelihood, whilst your tent may be the same size as a caravan and awning, often sites separate caravans and tents into separate areas, you may also find if they allow you on a 'caravan' plot, at least part of it may be gravel like hard standing. You WILL find suitable sites, just not all sites being suitable. You'll have to check each site you want to visit carefully, with no assumptions.
Thanks for your messages. I have noted down some of the site names you have mentioned in hope they can accommodate us!
I was hoping for a more positive response in terms of being able to get onto sites but I was prepared for the likelihood we may struggle. It’s a shame that you can buy tents of such size but find it so hard to locate sites to pitch them. But I do appreciate the footprint is quite large.
I am beginning to take notes on sites that do house jumbo size tents and hopefully I will find more on my travels.
I really enjoyed going camping with the family there’s something about camping that a flight cannot give you.
Not sure if any other readers have seen this but please share your tents and sizes
If you want to visit the North York Moors try Marfit Head Farm between Pickering and Whitby.
Tents are usually on the back field, I was told pitches there are large but because this was busy we were on the top field which is mostly caravans and motorhomes - our pitch could accommodate a very large caravan and full awning. Price is per person plus EHU if required, no Ryanair style add ons.
You could take 2 adjacent pitches if a site can only take smaller tents but is a desirable site for you. Cost is usually very closely related to number of occupants so cost may not be as much more as you would expect.
