Haven't been to the rainforest or such exotic locations but been to tropical shores, I followed a 4 step system & only got bitten twice in 2 weeks, others were practically eaten alive as part of the hotel was over a lake! I used Boots Soltan sun lotion then aftersun, both with insect repellent after my shower morning & night, Jungle Formula Spray on my legs and Mozzie citronella patches (in velcro bands although I couldn't find these), one on my ankle & one on my wrist! I bet I smelled absolutely disgusting to a mosquito!
