This isnt a burning question or anything, I'm just curious in the name of research as I'd like to buy a bigger tent at some point.
Although our 6 man tent is fine for us at the moment I was wondering what was the best size tent for a growing family of 5?
I love our tent but am worried that the bedroom situation could get cramped with our 3 kids aged 8, 5 and 3 (2 girls, one boy) I'd love to get a '3 bedroomed' tent but is it a bit silly to go so big or would a bigger 2 bedroomed tent be better??
We started with a 3 bed tent ut the kids wanted to sleep in the same room , then goy gat a 2 bed with a dividing cutrain where they can be apart but still feel safe together. Howevder our oldest is reaching "teenager" and we have now bought the outwell indiana which gives us a choce
we too are a family of 5, and useda kos6 frame tent. one bedroom has a divider, and the other was separate, but alas time moves and we now have a tt...so room for all and more
We dipped our toe in the water at the large end ,and went for a wynnster apollo 16 , marketed as a 16 man tent 4 bed rooms ,massive central area, we are really pleased with it, takes the two of us 1 hour to put up.
We havent had a problem finding sites in this country , had to lookat 3 sites before found one that could acomodate us in our chosen area of brittany this summer,
it is great for a family of 4 masses of room , you can always invite a family of friends along for long weekends, thought i must admit if we are going for just 2 nights we take the small tent.
do shop around we picked up the previous years model for just £249 ,just type what your after in google.
Go on dip your toe in the water you wont regret it .
cheers Fiz. I've learned my lesson from our first tent which was a cheap inpulse buy. We were ok when we bought the vango cos we bought it from the local camping shop so saw it pitched.
I'll definitely do some extensive searching for a good price when I finally pursuade my OH to buy a new tent, funds permitting too!
Hi me again , just did a quick search cheapest i could find in the last two minutes was here , but now 295 but it shows what a few minutes can find, plus it makes you feel good to think youve got a bargain

------------- Do I need help putting the tent up? I need help just getting it out the car!
Well now...... I'm regularly laughed at everytime I 'have an idea'. Ok.... admittedly I do tend to think big though not all my ideas are hairbrain.
When I talked the good woman into camping, though it didnt take much, I expected to but something like a four or six man jobbie. It was herself that said we should go the what we have now, our very first tent. Regrets? Not a chance. It's like a garage or a loft or an extension.... of you have the room you use it. In addition, we have regular visitors who drop in on or come away with us. It's great.
The only thing I'd say is check how easy it is to get up. Don't worry about it being larger that you need... so long as it goes up relatively easy.
------------- I’m getting too old for this…but I like it
We currently have a Montana 6 for two of us and a dog but two years ago we had a Diablo 900 which was a lovely tent which we only changed to a Montana because it took us so long to erect. We're really happy with the Montana though as it gives plenty of space and headroom for my over 6ft hubby and it takes us around 20 minutes to erect which makes it a good tent for both longer holidays and quick weekends away.
------------- The Klingon Empire endorses camping as an honourable passtime.
We have gone the other way and started with a big tent (10-berth, 4 bedrooms, so we used the 4th bedroom for storage) but we have now downsized to 2 smaller tents. Our boys are 15 and 16 now, so they wanted a tent of their own - makes them a bit more independent. Our daughter has her own bedroom in the other tent.
I must admit tho - we have used the tents overnight, but we haven't tried a proper trip away yet - we might be hankering after the big one again - especially if the weather is bad!
