hello, another newbie here to annoy you untill we're "clued up" so to speak.
i've always woundered how you keep a tent secure when your not around( site seeing etc)?
what age do you let a child have their own tent? i've got a 9yr old who's seen a rather girlie coloured tent and wants it (also give us more room).
not been camping yet, as not got all the gear yet.
youngest is 5mths, and woundering how we would sterilize bottles etc. got EHU. can we take our electric sterilzer or do we have to use good old cold sterizing method?
just a few questions to start with.
looking forward to camping(even with 4 kids, 5 if you include dave)and meeting new friends.
Welcome to UKCS!! the friendliest site on the web! Pull up a chair new friend!
Well, to answer your questions as quickly as poss,
1, basically, you can lock your tent, as you could just slash your way in with a sharp knife, so you keep valuables out of sight or locked in your car.
2, you can put your child in their own tent as soon as you think they are old enough and are happy to be on their own, some sites may charge extra for the extra tent, so that could also be a factor for you.
3, alot of people use special hanging steriliser bags, but if you have electric hook up in your tent then you could take your plug in one. i stopped sterilising at 6 months anyway as my 2 were crawling then and had alsorts in their mouths!!
hope this helps you!

We took our daughter last year when she was 5 months old and just bought a cheap cold water steriliser and milton tablets - you just have to be carefull where you put it so it doesn't get knocked over - especially with all those kids!
As for security, you will find that the large majority of campers are very helpfull, friendly and honest, so we just put and valuables like wallets camera etc in the car when we go out (you will be needing them anyway) and zip all the doors, never had a problem so far - touch wood!
Security wise I would echo the above, you just tend to trust the people around you, campers are mainly salt of the earth folk. I have an eleven year old son and he will be in his own pup tent this year.
Hi Hazel and welcome to ukcs where you'll find the majority of people have a bit of a mad streak (but this helps!)
We also have had no problems so far with the security issue, although I was given some small combination padlocks for xmas which I'm going to try out. They are only a deterant during the day if we're away from the tent to stop someone just unzipping.
It's already been said before but the best thing is to keep valuables with you all the time. Dodgy people on camp sites are usually sniffed out, rounded up, put in a caravan and taken to the nearest cliff edge. You know the rest!
any tips on how to keep kids in a tent at night? got a 3 1/2 year escapologist, how can we make sure he dosent escape at night ?(apart from straight jacket and hand cuffs, ummmm... might be good for dave tho :P )
if you can plug a sterilizer straight in does that mean you can take anything from home and plug it in? would that depend on watts/amps etc?
i must be so thick. i've read other posts on electrickery.
if you've got no EHU, what lighting is peeps using?
seen solar power bits and pieces but a bit expensive.
