just got back from spending easter weekend at higher harlyn campsite in cornwall.

let me explain that i am new to this camping malarky and since christmas i have gradualy been building up a collection of equipment. i started by purchasing a diablo 600, a camping gaz stove and electric cooler and have gradualy added to this every time finances allowed [ and sometimes when they never]

now, i could hardly wait leading up to easter weekend, to try out all my new kit. and then i noticed a load of posts on this site about the diablo 600 being a complete git to put up.anyway, arrived at the site on saturday morning  , sent the three kids off to the park and me and the missus set about pitchin the tent. all in all it must of took us about an hour and twenty minutes and yes it was quite fiddly but i didnt think this was too bad for first attempt. and besides we found the tent to be well worth the effort. after we had added our own personal touches it felt like home from home .

verdict; great weekend, chuffed to bits with the tent, totaly hooked on camping and hopin to get in a few more short trips before our main holiday to dawlish warren in august. love and peace to all you happy campers

Well done!  We camped for the first time since being kiddies last summer in France.  We bought a Montana 6, begged, borrowed and purchased the rest of the stuff needed and trundled off for two weeks with just a ferry ticket in our hot little mitts.

OH thought I would hate camping but if anything I am the one keen to do something again this year.

hi ali, the main reason for getting into camping was to get a cheap route into france next year. we are going to spend this year practicing. luckily for us we live in cornwall so we've got a shed load of places to visit before we go    'international' lol.

all the best, russ

France was great, we went down to the Auvergne region where all the extinct volcanoes are.  Really gorgeous scenery and all rivers, lakes and gorges like cheddar but larger.  The Puy de Sancy and Mont Dore are fab to visit too.  We also went to Vichy and the source of the Volvic water spring - oddly enough we went to Buxton in October and filled our bottles there too!
