Well, we are off this weekend for the first time this year. Not going far from home, to Rutland Caravan and Camping Site. The forecast is looking ok. Yesturday I got the sleeping bags out to air on the line, and they had that camping smell about them....and the sound of the zips opening to air them had that camping sound.....made me very excited.
We have lots planned this year already, cant wait....

Why is it that some people (us!) really like the smell of canvas, whilst others (older kids!) say it stinks?!
Must be all in the mind.....

Hi, new member here. I think the smell of the grass inside the tent is a great camping smell. We went looking at new tents the weekend after only just coming back the week before from our first trip for a long time (13 years!) and we cant wait to go again! - all because of the smell!

For me it's everything, putting the tent up, watching other people putting their tents up, and the whole "camping experience!"
Most of all its the bacon rolls, Bovril, and Tayto crisps.
And its sending me mad as I'm at home.

If I get withdrawal symptoms missing the smell of canvas in the open air, I make any excuse & visit what used to be Midwest Camping (now Yeomans?) at Knowle, Solihull, as they have Cabanon cotton tents up in their outdoor display. Wonderful smell - conjures up memories of camping as a child..... ------------- TrickyWoo

Indeed camping is in the air and summer is well upon us.
I think Mid West Camping were aquired by Yeomans Outdoors early 2005. Still a good display of tents though, if not better, been down a few times just to get a feeling for things before we head off.
I think they still do a range of Cabanon and Easycamp frame tents to get a wiff of that unique canvas smell.
