Hi everyone, we're new to this forum so please be gentle
We've just erected our Diablo 600 for the first time , took about 1 1/2 for complete novices so we're quite chuffed, one query though..........
After the flysheet has been draped over the inner tent and the ties have been secured to line up the seams the official 'Vango' instructions then state ... "2 Side buckles at the base of each side of the flysheet are attached to the mating half"
what does this mean, couldn't fathom out what to 'mate' to what, does anyone have any advice ??
(its a 2005 model, bought Novemeber 2005)
From memory I think there are some black plastic hooks on a black adjustable webbing strap on the flysheet. You hook these onto the rings on the inner tent where the pins are connected into the poles
Came to the same conclusion as R2D2 that it must be referring to the black hooks. Maybe they originally used those buckle type clips but changed the design and not the instructions?
Oh, I'm so glad we're not the only ones who couldn't understand that!!!!! I finally, however, worked it out at the weekend (after we'd wrongly hooked up the clips to the rings, which we've always done). There's only one thing it can mean: the clips clip on to the fabric loops attached to the rings. Don't know why Vango haven't clarified this before - the rest of their instructions are good! I'm certain this is what the 'mating half' refers to and will try it next time - couldn't be bothered to put it right this time after we'd adjusted everything. However, I expect it would be better to clip them to the webbing straps as it would put less of a strain on the flysheet and perhaps make sure it's positioned as the manufacturer intended. Awfully glad we weren't the only couple who couldn't make head 'nor' tail of this instruction, though.
One other thing we found very useful came from the instructions for our cheapie, overnight tent, which (strangely enough) isn't actually a geodesic design but mentions a tip for putting one up (?!!) We tried it with the Diablo 900 and our tent went up better than it ever has before and without any problem. We have found it difficult to pitch the dome first of all each time we've done it before we tried this. See what others think, we're convinced it worked well for us:
Once you've got all three main dome poles in their sleeves, pin one end of the blue pole (that's the one which forms the front of the dome rather than one of the two which traverse it) into its ring and gradually fix the other end of the blue pole into the other ring and pin fixing at the other side. Only when you've got this pole in, fix in place the other two poles which traverse the dome - this worked brilliantly for us and saved us struggling like mad with the poles. Hope it's useful for someone else new to the Diablo 900/geodesic tents.
Thanks for the replys guys, there seems to be a common theme here, "glad we were not the only ones"
So whats the concensus with all you Diablo owners out there, do you attach the black plastic 'hooks' to the rings or the fabric loops ????
I'm getting mine out again tomorrow night to try and get this mating sorted out

Just under 50 minutes and that includes setting out the Footprint Groundsheet.
Helps if you have an able Partner - which I have... although she's only just over 5 foot tall and 7 stone she can't half wack up a tent. Kids come in handy aswell as groundanchors when it gets a bit blowy!!
Off this afternoon after work infact to a lovely little site near Trowbridge! Weather forecast changes by the hour!!
