Hi!

We saw a Lichfield Cherokee 3 today and thought it looked ideal for those times when we can only manage one night away.

Does anyone know if Lichfield is a decent make of tent?

Any advice would be welcome as we need a small, cheap, easy-to-put-up tent for me, OH and 9year old son for ONE night camping trips only. No airbeds for one nighters - only mats.

Thanks in advance to all who answer.

If you search under Lichfield you should be able to find some comments on Lichfield tents in earlier threads.  We've just bought one (Cascade 6 DL) but due to combination of children's illnesses and OH working weekends we haven't been away with it yet.  Have put it up in the garden and it looks great so I'm raring to go.

Litchfield are owned by the same folk that own Vango. They`re a good brand...decent quality but not quite so many frills as Vango tents and are aimed firmly at the leisure market. Good solid value, but they`ll never be the sexiest tent on the campsite, you know?

Anyway, the Lichfield Cherokee 3. Yes you`ll get three of you in it but it`s going to be a bit snug, to be honest. For the sake of five minutes more pitching time would it not be better to go for a four berth? For instance, the Coleman Trailblazer 4 looks almost as easy to pitch, has a better sized sleeping pod (with divider) and fair head height. Not that much more expensive either.

You could even add the optional awning and have space enough for two nights...

Hi Val

The Coleman Trailblazer 4 looks really good........well worth considering. I'd like to see it up just to get the feel of it.

We have a Lichfield (can't remember which model but its a double dome 4/5 berth) and it has stood up to some fierce downpours and very windy conditions with no leaks, so I'd recommend one.  The only reason we have the Gelert now is the kids are getting bigger and we were finding it a bit too cosy and needed more space!

Still have the Lichfield though, I'm reluctant to part with it, as I reckon if I was taking the kids away on my own for a couple of days I'd use the Lichfield as its easier to put up.

Bought a Trailblazer 5 from WildDay - really good tent. If the 4 man is the same, I'd recommend it

Ofh, forgot to say I owned a Litchfield Catalan 12-man dome for a couple of years before I bought my current Vango. (More living space.) Good tent, very sturdy, easy to put up. One of my friends bought it from me and loves it.

Hi Lesley

I bought our Lichfield Cherokee4 for exactly the same reason.    To get away at the drop of a hat.

It goes up so easy        it stood up to some heavy rain in kielder last weekend, it is a no frills tent. the sleeping compartment is adequate and the ground sheet is attached to the sleeping area, I struggled to get the outer fly sheet to come close to the ground. I was dissapointed that when I opened the door during the rain water fell onto the ground sheet. the living area was quite roomy I managed to cook  and get a table and 3 chairs in as well as baggage.

Overall

For the price I paid for it  if it gets me a few nights away with my lads it was well worth it.

Dont forget to invest in the delta pegs for the main guys, wheteher it was the peat surface at kielder the wire pegs werent up to much. Pleased I had my deltas with me.

We've got a Lichfield Apache, that our son and equipment stay in (lol) and it's great, was a bargain price and is simple to set up.
