Hi, Have a Monty 6 and when we bought it the leaflet that came with it from the retailer said we had to erect it before our first trip and hose it down a little and allow it to dry.

This is apparently to properly waterproof it. Only problem is our garden hasnt got a patch of grass that big. We are taking our first trip on Friday, and although no rain is forecast I'm a little concerned.

Do I need to be?

Think that's only canvas tents, someone will come along and put me right if I'm wrong!!

Yep it seems odd that they give that advice. Cotton canvas needs to be watered so that it swells to fill the stitch holes, but the Monty is a synthetic tent and is proofed and seam sealed already, so whilst it is a good idea to get out any new tent and check it over if possible before you actually go camping I can see no need to water it down.

Then one time I DID do this was with a cheap Khyam I got on line which I wanted to check for waterproofness, as there was a dodgy batch out in 2003/4. Turned out have been a good idea on that occasion cos the b*gger did leak!
