Hi - we are seasoned campers (due to being exbikers and thus veterans of many rallies) but I now have 4 children so need to increase the size of tent - also I am claustrophobic so cannot do little sleeping compartments - I need SPACE around me
Needs:
At least 3 sleeping compartments
SIG throughout living area too
light and bright if possible
I like Royal tents - saw the avignon 6plus this w/e but there are so many of them - and I can't work out the differences - any advice on these or any other tent appreciated

Generally, I would have thought that Dome tents, with smaller pods hanging off are not the way to go with the claustrophobia.
Some of the big space tents, with bedroom space/height and lots of light, that come to mind are:
Montana 12
Outwell SunValley 8
Sunncamp Vario (2006 models)
Sunncamp Haven (2006 models)
Two that do not have a SIG set up, but have great height and light, that you may want to consider are the Outwell Indiana 8 and Wynnster Antares.

We have just bought a montana 12 and I can't rave about it enough. There are four sleeping areas and a huge living space. Our previous tent was a dome which was a bit claustrophobic but the monty by comparison is really light and airy. even the bedrooms feel spacious as they don't cut down at one end as domes tend to. We have a 2 1/2 year old and a one year old and they love it. They have loads of space to run around and we still have our space.
Hope you find something you as happy with as we are with our monty 12!!!
Yes, Yes the Vango Aspen 700. If it is space, light and a home from home this is the tent for you. See other treads on here re: the vango Aspen 700. Only down side is it takes a little longer to set up then some other tents but well worth it. Good luck with your purchase.

I agree with Karenina - it has to be the Montana 12. Spacious, light, airy, easy to put up and LOADS of room for the whole family (we are 2 adults, 1x11 year old and 1x3 year old). We drop one of the 2 berth bedrooms and use this space as a kitchen area. We also have a side canopy to give a porch/outdoor sitting area.
We just returned to camping last year since having kids. The cheap tent we got as a try-out broke after a couple of uses so had to get a new one. Spent HOURS researching - in shops, on the net, and talking to friends. Eventually settled on the SUNNCAMP HAVEN 800 (2006 model). Fabulous space. A 4 berth bed at one end (with flimsy divider if wished), and 2x 2 berth beds at the other (all 3 beds removable for extra living space). Sewn-in groundsheet throughout. Loads of living space in the middle. Doors at either side. We paid £300. Like you, I feel somewhat claustrophobic in a small tent, and I wanted bedrooms where you can stand up - no prob with this one. The bedrooms are very roomy, and you could fit 5 in the larger end. Windows can be opened into the 2 smaller bedrooms giving extra light/air. We did consider the Diablo, but bedroom pods too small/low. We are delighted with our purchase.
