We have only used our new Khyam Utimate Classic three times this year and have had two problems with the bedroom poles. On the first outing the lower bedroom pole split and on the third trip last weekend the plastic joint at the top of the bedroom pole broke.
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm putting it up correctly. On the bottom of the bedroom poles there are spikes which I fit into the tab on the flysheet with the two holes. There does seem to be a lot of tension but I can't see where else they should fit.
Does anyone else have this tent? Am I doing something wrong? I've been using the old Diablo more recently, even though its no longer pactical for us. Any help would be appreciated.
If you look, there should be three 'adjustment settings' on the bottom of the bedroom poles. Always make sure, when pitching your tent, that the poles are set at their lowest, ie: the 'spring button' is engaged into the top one of the three holes. That way, you won't be putting excessive pressure on the joints when pitching (which may be the reason for the breakage). I've tried to engage the bedroom poles, into the feet of the main poles, while they're set high and it really does put a lot of pressure on the 'auto joints'. I soon found the lowest setting on the bedroom poles alleviates this problem. You can always adjust the pole higher, if the bedroom material looks a little loose... The adjustment is there should you be pitched on 'uneven ground' one side can be set higher or lower to counter the uneveness...
Thanks Andy, I've not been adjusting the lower half of the pole as we have usually pitched on level ground. I'll try it on the lowest setting to start with as you suggested. We love the tent but we were starting to think it would be simpler to just use the smaller one.
