Hi Carole you need a proper hookup cable like this, don't be tempted to buy the cheap ones off ebay they are not safety approved and could kill you.
You can run a fridge, light, kettle, toaster, tv, fan heater , hairdryer, whatever...
But you can usually only run one heated appliance at a time. A kettle and toaster on together would probably trip the site electrics,leaving you and half the site in the dark, as the site electric is not as high amps ?or watts?, as at home.
