I just usse the little rectangular ones that nest inside each other. My frying pan is now obsolete as I use a gas bbq/griddle and can do most things on it (inc eggs for brekkie!)
Plates and bowls I just bought in the end of summer sales some pretty melamine ones. HAd similar b4 and they are pretty tough, and not too heavy. Got mugs to match as well.
We just take 1 med pan 1 large pan (great for stews pasta etc) and a frying/griddle pan we mange fine with that with a family of 5 plates etc we take plastic this way no worrys on damage etc under a pound in most shops and tesco value knifes and forks £2.99p for 24 hope this may help....
After many years of taking away my nesting non-stick camping pans and clip-together knife, fork & spoon sets, I now take ordinary cutlery and stainless steel pans with heavy base. Much more practical and easier to clean.
We have a nesting set of small nonstick pans from Tefal, a camping kettle, a toaster rack (single slice, not the rubbish four slice one), a cheap frying pan from Woolies and a Camping Gaz party grill which goes on top of the gas stove. My OH claims to be constantly amazed by the gourmet meals I can rustle up for the two of us on two burners!
Melamine plates and bowls, a handful of cutlery from the kitchen drawer, a medium sized sharp knife and a wooden spatula for stirring, plus a small chopping board and a set of measuring cups for weighing out rice, couscous, water, etc and that's it for cooking equipment.
We are quite new to camping so I didnt want to spend a lot of money in case we didnt take to it (stupid thought...whats not to like).
We went to Asda and bought there cheap picnic set I think it was about £2.60 4xplates 4x knifes fork spoons and 4x mugs all tough plastic.
Then we had a look at Go Outdoors pans and didnt want to spend that much so when I was doing a little shopping at the Tescos near by they where selling pans for under £2 good ones to so I bought a couple of them they are fantastic and better than the ones I have at home.
After a couple of camping trips everything is still fine and the plastic has held up well they ever came in a bag.
So I would shop around and see what suites you .

------------- Even after Monday and Tuesday the calendar says WTF!
we bought a tesco value frying pan and had a couple of 'mess tins' lying around that i had had for a few years, since getting our FC when size/weight etc is not such an issue we just grabbed a couple of spare pans from the kitchen - we were in a position to do this and not miss them due to both of us owning houses before we got married eariler this year.
