Anybody know what has happened to McKinlay? I have a fantastic tent made by them that is now probably 10/12 years old. Called an Idaho 1. It is a two man external framed tent. ie the canvas hangs inside the poles. Getting on in life now and need to get something a bit more roomy and taller. Only use it about once or twice a year when I take my 7 year old camping with me. Would love to buy another McKinlay but cant seem to find them.

Any info appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

If you are looking for a larger frane tent with external poles, watch ebay or forsale ads for a Cabanon Montreal,4 berth and is 13' x 8', it has front and side doors, An annexe can be purchased to fit on side door to give a extra bedroom or storage.

Sorry i dont have details of the tent you have currently.

I will have to see if I can find one. I will try and describe it in case not.

The poles are all elasticated. Centrally at the top is a metal circle into which 6 poles fit. 4 of those poles then connect to metal fitments at each corner of the tent. The other two go into nylon sleeves at the top of the front and rear of the tent. The outer skin of the tent is then clipped onto the poles so that it hangs within them. Obviously the tent inner is fitted within the outer. Tent is then pegged down as normal. The tent is a dome shape. Apparently it was designed for rough weather. The frame and tent are designed to allow for strong winds so as not to suffer the effects that normal tents would suffer from. ie get blown over

Daughter and I spent a really wet and windy few days just outside of Matlock couple of months ago and the tent really showed its worth then.

I will now search for any photos that I may have.

Given that nobody has still given me any info as to what has happened to McKinlay?

Sounds like an interesting and very different kind of tent, no wonder then that you want to buy another McKinlay
