Our very cosy solution is

5 season sleeping mats under the airbed (these have aluminium backing)

Coleman Pillow top airbed with a fleece blanket under the "pillow top"

Silk sleeping bag liner - from eBay

Fleece blanket(s) ontop of sleeping bag.

We also very light thermal undies and hats if it is feeezing

Best of all - cuddle the OH

You Can't beat a Down Sleeping Bag.

I use a Mountain Equipment Dreamcatcher and cannot remember being cold in it.

I made our fleece liners myself, fleece on the roll is dirt cheep in most fabric shops, and the kids got a large choice of designs. We all wear warm pjs with socks and a jumper and sometimes a hat on very cold nights. We also bought a little blow air heater from Argos with safety cut out switch and thermostat, just leave it on all night and it switches on and off automatically(very quiet, a hipnotic hum). My boys usually complain that i've gone over the top and end up crawling out of their bags in the middle of the night!

Remember that is the ground that is taking the heat away, not the air.

Insluate the airbeds from the ground (eveen better use camp beds), using materials like building floor insluation, silver rescue blankets or the silver carboard windscreen covers you put in your car in the summer.

...and wear something on your head as MT pointed out (if I remember right, you lose something like 25% of your heat from your head).
