Please could anyone advise me on lifting ground sheets as this seems to be a requirement during the day at a site we wish to visit this year.As we have a large tunnel tent and once set up everything set down on the ground sheets stays in situ as we tend to camp in luxury.
All sleeping pods have sewn in ground sheets but we use a breathable one in the living area,i must admit this request is putting us off visiting the site and is somthing we have never been asked before.
Would like to hear from anyone who has a view Monty.
I wouldnt fancy going to all that trouble every day either the amount of stuff we take. Mind you when striking camp after 2 weeks it looks pretty awful doesnt it. PamJ
sorry but i have never heard this before and what do you do if you have a sig i would be very surprised if any one asked me to liftt a ground sheet during my stay
I don't think you'll be asked to 'lift' the groundsheet if you have a S.I.G. let's face it, you just can't do it...
It used to be common practice to roll back the groundsheet a couple of times a week, to allow the grass to 'breathe'. If your going out for a day, it doesn't take too long to fold the groundsheet back; then roll it out again, when you get home in the evening... I think it's a good practice that's fallen out of use, due to the amount of 'gear' we take. Most of us can't be bothered to spend ten minutes shifting it all, for the sake of a patch of grass!...
The downside is, more campsites may decide not to take fortnight bookings from tents with a S.I.G. (I know of two that do it already), or from campers who refuse to lift the groundsheet occasionally (I think daily is a bit excessive)... But, we all have a choice, if it's not something you're willing to do, then choose another site. There are still plenty of site owners who don't mind bald patches everywhere. Personally, I prefer green pitches; so I'm happy to fold the groundsheet back a couple of times a week and air the grass...
