If you are tight on budget then there are lots of bargains out there which would save you money from your £299.
For example., you could get a 2006 Wynnster Hawk on-offer for around £140 - SIG, two big bedrooms (bigger than the Hartofrd L). Which would easily leave you £80 for a Day Room and another £80 in change. And I would rather have a seporate Day Room for safe cooking and evening socialising than any tent extension.
I can think of a few other options, besides the Wynnster.
Just a thought, as said, if you like the Hartford, it is a fine tent, go for it.

You could also get the new Vango Kirkwood 400, for £200, which is equal in size to the Hartford L, but has a big advantage over the Hartford in that it pitches outer-first; which, to me, is a big bonus with this size/design of tent.

i have thouhgt before maybe another tent for cooking etc, but the thought of pitching 2!! most sites seem to charge yet more on pitch fees for extras which puts me off, which is my 2 don't get pup tents untill they are too big anyway
i can get the hartford L 2005 cheaper priced at 149 - but the extras don't match

we have the hartford L 2005 at the price of 149 quid , its actually a better spec than the 2006 one and yes we are going for the accessoires even though they are not an exact match , if you are on a budget , i'd get the cheaper hartford and add on as and when you have the money.

i don't think i have ever pitched a tent with inner first
If it is raining and you are pitching inner-first, the inner will get wet until you get it covered. If it is small easy tent, then it does not matter so much, as you cna be quick. However, if itis a big tent, then obviously the more time you don't have the flysheet on, makes for a wet inside.
A tent pitching outer-first obviously means the inner stays dry, as you put the inner up after the waterproof outer is up.

QUONG let me guess do you have an Outwell!
I rather strongly disagree with you I am delighted with my Khyam Ridgipod it is so versatile I can sleep 12 or 4 depending on how I set it up and we allways without fail get lots of envious comments when on site. The quality is equally as good as Outwell. (from memory khyam tents leaked 2-3 years ago due to a stitching error but lets not forget the debarcle that was Outwell last year dodgy poles dodgy zips leaky seams need I say antmore)
Copperclan everyone has their favourites but the usual advice applies 'go and see in the flesh erected all the tents you can and I guarantee you will fall for one'
Both are gret tents, would suggest you go and see both erected to ensure that they fit your own personnal requirements. But again both are great tents.
Shops tend to put there tents up around March, until then there are a few with inside displays. Camping and General on Canvey Island have a lot of tents on there indoor display but no Outwells. Have a look at Cross Camping in March, they are going to have a vast amount of Outwells on display. Another shop would be Tony Wilds at Woburn, but don't thinks any tents up just yet.
Just for your info. You can pick up the Khyam Tourer 400 or XL model for £199 at J R Leisureworld.(doesnt include ground sheet, which is £30. They are not on the net but have 5 locations around the midlands, with both on display.
I have to agree the Tourer 400 is a nice tent and was on my final 4 options with the rigidome XL and a couple of Outwell tents. Some people argue they are dark inside but they looked fine to me, but the 400 only has a 2.5M square living space, but you have the option to only use 1 bedroom
I opted for the Sunvalley 6 (£265) in the end, after much advice from Uk Campsite members

Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
