Hi - We're new to camping, 1st time last August in a 20 yr old borrowed tent that just about kept upright and just enough room to swing a cat in. We are a family of 3 but often take a friend for our daughter. I like my home comforts but we did have a laugh(went with 3 other families). So we've decided to bite the bullet and buy a tent. Our requirements are fly sheet first, plenty of room with porch and pods you can stand up in and sleeping head by the zipper if you know what i mean! I think i would prefer sewn in groundsheet as i had unexpected visitor in the night las time!!! We like the look of the new Vango Killington 600 but someone said quality not so good on their larger tents? Would like your opinion and advice also on how easy to put up etc. Sometimes us girls will be going down on our own and men joining at weekends!!
have a look at some of big bunny's advice on various threads, most excellent advice on choosing a tent. Need to go and have alook at a few to get a good idea
As for tent makes, this is a previously compiled list which may help:
Commonly available (UK) tents, with established reputations are:
Cabanon
Easycamp
Coleman
Gelert
Kyham/Campus
Outwell
Relum
Sunncamp
Vango
Wynnster
Less common and specialist brands, but still with established reputations:
Aztec
Quest/Basecamp
Eureka
Force Ten
Heidelberg
Jack Wolfskin
Jamet
Lichfield
Blue Diamond/Outdoor Revolution
Messager
Marechal
Microfast
Nordic Outdoor
North Face
Quechua

Then there are some established shop brands, including:
Blacks (Blacks)
Eurohike (Millets)
Peakland (Yeomans)
ProAction (Argos)
Attwoolls (Attwoolls)
The there are some imported tents, which are not normally retailed in the UK - so support like repair and relacements might be an issue, but generally they get, depending on the tent, good to excellent comments on here:
Coleman US
DeWaard
Karsten
Kelty
Ransted
Skandika
.. and then finally there are the famed too-good-to-be true, direct from tat-land, Ebay "specials", which are to be avoid like an unexploaded bomb in a fireworks factory.

Hi weve got the vango diablo 600 which is more or less the same as the killington but pitches inner 1st , must say i like the idea of the killington pitching outer 1st, much easier to put up. The quality of the diablo is excellent so would expect the same for the killington , dont know why people think vango tents arent good quality ? weve also got a vago venture 500 for weekends and are well pleased with that as well.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
