at last we have eventually put up our new tent (2006 Montana) and what a laugh - it took us 20 mins to get the ground sheets in position let alone the next hour getting the tent up - BUT we did it, admitted with help but we did it.

Now this is were the problem is the damn poles are sooooooooooo stuck into each other - in future should we wd40 them or grease them or what???????

any help out there for dummies????????

You could try giving any 'stuck' poles a sharp tap on the stuck bit. MT

Tap yes, Vaseline no. You shouldn`t put ANYTHING on your tent poles that might affect the waterproofing of the outer if they touch the tent. Use Fabsil if you feel they need something...this is a silicone based tent waterproofing spray, and won`t hurt even a synthetic tent if it smears across.

One method of unsticking poles that I was shown years ago is like this.
You need two people facing each other. With the joint between you, put your left hand on the far side of the joint and your right hand on the nearside of the joint. Your partner does the same so that you are each have one hand holding each pole. Then twist and pull.

The other problem with putting anything 'greasy' on the pole ends is that the moment they are undone they will pick up every bit of grit and dust around so that the next time you use them the problem will be even worse!

We had a Monty 2006 which had sticking poles. It went back for other reasons, we now have a Monty 2007 and guess what? the poles still stick!

Try wearing a pair of rubber gloves when you`re untwisting poles....gives you a far better grip, especially if the poles are wet.
