Hello Tinkerbelly I also love camping and walking and I am a single mum of 2, my eldest daughter is nearly 21 and has her own home and life now and my yougest daughter is 15 and really does not like camping. I have only camped on my own once before on a great site near scarborough but I found it quite lonely. I really hope you can go on the Riverside meet as it would be good to meet up and have a good natter around a fire-pit or bbq.
brunis mum, Ive got the time off so Im deffinately going to Riverside, my only concern is if there is much for the kids to do there? ive been on the website and it looks very quiet

We have just had a family camping holiday in Brittany , me, hubby, daughter 9 and son 6. Me and the kids loved it. Hubby has decided its not for him. To me its the ideal cheap method of entertaining the kids during school holidays. I would love to take the kids on my own, but there is no way I can errect our Corvus 6 + 2 on my own . Can anyone recommend any sites where I could find help, if only errecting the tent
I'm sure many campers would be happy to help if you're struggling, regardless of which site you're on, but if you think camping without hubby is going to be a regular thing why not invest in a tent that's smaller and easier to put up on your own.

Hi LIVTOM I have been on one solo camp as my daughter who usually comes with me does not really enjoy camping. I found a lovely site and when I explained I was alone the site manager offered to help all I needed to do was give him a shout, but while sorting the tent out a fellow camper and her husband came over to talk to me and in no time at all we had the tent up and the job was done. I am sure the offer of help would be close by if you decide to take the plunge, I know that if I saw someone possibly in need of help I would offer. Its also a good way of starting up a conversation with your site neighbours. Relax, enjoy and have many years of happy camping.
Thanks Tigermouse and Brunos Mum- I just ned to pluck up the courage and take the plunge, maybe somewhere close to home and if all else fails I can come home.
Ann, I could recommend a lovely quiet site which would be ideal for you to try a weekend 'solo test pitch' - Wyreside Farm Park at St. Michaels near Garstang. Only ten pitches, all with ehu, lovely helpful owner and visits from the free range hens which roam the site, also a nice walk along the nearby river if you have a dog, and pub just on the main road. It's only about 40 minutes drive away so easy enough for you to come home if you really can't manage, though I'm sure it wouldn't come to that - we lone women are made of sterner stuff, we don't give up that easily! lol
The site is only open till October though I don't know if that's the beginning or end of, as I've never been so late in the season. Would be worth a phone call though if you fancied it - it really is a gem of a site.

Well if you do go next year and you like car boots there's a good one in a field not far from the site - it's on at Easter then closed till the May bank hol when it re-opens and it's on every week then till about the end of September. I go quite regularly and usually managed to pick up a few bargains.
