I've thought for a while that there should be a "dating" site for people who want to find someone to go camping with!
My daughter finds it hard to make new friends on sites, so I usually end up having to march up to other mums and ask if their child would like to go for a bike ride with my child. Most accept, and we head off into the sunset - for a coffee. The odd one, however, will speed up, whispering to their child to keep away from the strange lady!
It would be lovely to get to know some people who would like to meet up somewhere in the central south (Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire area), with kids, now and again. My daughter's favourite pastimes are cycling and building dens.
I live near Winchester and often go camping with my 8 year old boy in Dorset. However I am expecting in 2 weeks so am having to put camping on hold this year but hopefully be up and running again next year.
My son also likes cycling, building dens and doing anything adventurous.
She too finds it hard to make friends ,but once introduced gets on well.she likes bikes ,dens is not sporty but enjoys walking and swimming, loves pink, but can adapt.
we are relatively new to camping, we have gone with friends, and she has been with her dad,is due to go with Guides soon.
based in the Chiltern,Bucks area .
Would be interested in doing something fairly local.
Hi my two boys and i often go away together in wilts/hants/dorset when the weather and time allows. They like making dens, cycling/ scooters. not noisy games and hate football but love swimming and anything to do with water or just reading/walking? would you fancy meeting one weekend this year? i enjoy anything outdoors, tea good natters with or without wine.
Hi Abbafan, I'd love to. Let's hope the weather goes back to what it was before! Are you in a tent or caravan? How old are the boys? You can email me on kay at musicwithkay.co.uk.
I knew I should have popped on here earlier... We had a large camp for Singles With Kids at the end of June in the New Forest (around 60 families). It's an annual event for us, we've had 6 similar camping weekends this year varying from 20-60 families.
I'm not sure if it's too far afield for you but we've another camping weekend planned at the end of August at Wicksteed Park in Northampton? It's always a popular event for us as there's a small theme park there. The kids usually range from 1 through to 22 and all families are single parent families. Single With Kids
Oh, what a shame, Chrissie - it sounds like that would have been just what I was looking for! We're away (in the caravan, of course!) at the end of August, but I shall check out your website for future events. Thanks very much for posting.
No problem Ecofrizz. Looking at your location the New Forest camp may have been a little too close to home for you - it was at Roundhill in Brockenhurst, just around the corner for you! I remember sitting in traffic in Lyndhurst, watching my poor little van getting hotter and hotter...
You really do live in a beautiful part of the UK.
Chrissie x
p.s. I've an 11 year old tomboy too, I'm counting the years to her school prom for the rare chance to see her in a dress
Chrissie - I like going "away" near home actually. As it's just me, I prefer not to have to tow very far - the furthest I've been is Dorset.
I looked at the website, and the only other camp this year is way up North, so I think it's beyond me. I'll have to look again next year. Thanks again for the contact - shame you don't live closer!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
