Hi all
We have a 4 year old Elddis Affinity 550 & are having problems with the built in microwave. It’s working but overheating & switches off. It turns back on once cooled down but obviously there is a problem with it. I’m thinking the fan is at fault but difficult to ascertain as it’s built in & not easily accessible. Got the manual out (it’s a Russell Hobbs) & info says it is only to be used freestanding & NOT in a built in unit or cupboard !
Any suggestions anybody?
TIA

Not sure how much help it is, but my van factory fitted microwave (Daewoo brand) also overheats/cuts out after reasonably heavy use, again returning to fully functional after cooling. Mine is also 'fitted' in an overhead cupboard, but with clearance all round and several vents to give airflow. According to the manual, mine is permitted to be fitted in a cabinet with sufficient clearance, and my cupboard appears to meet the min clearances stated.

Can't say for sure with your van, but mine is not as 'fitted' as it would first appear! The 'facia/bezel' around the MW is a standard cupboard door (matching the style of all other doors) with a hole cut in it to allow the MW front to sit flush with facial/bezel front. Lift the facia/bezel and you can see all around the MW, and the inverted U shaped piece of wood that pivots down to secure it in the location holes that it's feet sit in. I know some other brands of van have less user friendly installations and some obscure fixings that secure the MW!

I've just removed mine to clean the cupboard and exterior of the MW, and the vent holes, as they were very dusty and signs of mould growth from the condensation that forms in the cupboard. First time it's been out/cleaned (van's just turned 8 years old), but surprising amount of dust in both the MW fan vents and the cupboard vents! Having cleaned them out now, maybe less inclination to cut out in the future hopefully!

Just a thought, is your MW the original OEM fitment, or has it been a substitution at a later date? Seems strange to fit in a cabinet when manufactures says it must be free standing!

This is a problem we had in our Coachman. I seem to have solved the problem by fitting a cooling fan.

In the floor of the MW cupboard there is a plastic vent grill. Removing this , I installed a 12 volt computer fan (ebay) and threaded a small 12 volt mains adaptor to supply the power. The adaptor plugs in to a nearby mains socket. Now, when I use the MW I switch on the fan first and the MW runs without problems, by virtue of the forced ventilation from the fan.

Quite an easy job needing a minimum of tools and skill. Well, if I can do it, there is the proof.

Just to throw a spanner in the works. If the manual states it should not be built in then it is not fit for purpose as the dealer should be replacing it.

Thanks for the replies, it’s the original m/w factory fitted when new.
iank01, you’ve expressed my thoughts exactly.
I thought our dealer had gone into administration but found out they’ve been taken over so managed to speak to someone. Hopefully it will get resolved without costing me anything 🤞
