That's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string'question I'm afraid.

However, should the dampness have been caused by a water leak internally, now that it's stopped it will dry out in time. That is a much better scenario than water ingress from outside.

That being said, the thin ply is only about 3 mm thick with a layer of foam and the same underneath so depending how much water is trapped in the sandwich?

More importantly, is the wood sound when it dries out or has it rotted beyond repair? In which case, dependant on area, it may need replacing to regain it's structural integrity. If sound, I woould paint on some clear wood preserver like this one onto the effected area.

Dave.

Hi
I am new here ok here I go
Sold my caravan 2 weeks ago buyer came and looked several times at the caravan. Found some damp but we didn’t know about and the buyer asked if we would come down on the price . We agreed on £500. Buyer happy and took caravan did bank transfer all good. Several hours later recieved a call saying that there was more damp in the caravan . I explained that we were sorry to hear this but it is sold as seen. The couple sent me threatening text saying they knew where I live and work and will come to my home. The couple arrived at my home yesterday. They are now saying that the toilet isn’t working and they keep changing the minds on what they want me to give them money wise first it’s £1500 and the letter they posted they are wanting a full refund. I have had to contact police and I am so scared as I have never been in this situation before they are saying they will take me to court if I don’t respond back to them within 14 days

Hopefully when you advertised the caravan you never said that it was damp free. Sold as seen and they do not have a leg to stand on and it will be thrown out of court as they had every opportunity to check the caravan. Also they were aware of the damp before they took possession, but still went ahead with the purchase.

Hi Maggie, from your picture all seems well now and the wood is sound, even if slightly damp underneath it will dry out completyely in time. It's the amount of time that wood is constantly saturated that leads to rot, and from what I can see yours will be fine, you caught it in time.

Dave.

Hi, we have a 2009 Lunar and our damp problem is in the two corners either side at the back earlier in the year I checked underneath to see if there was any way water could get in ,then all was dry so I gave it a couple of coats of Bitumastic, so now I am thinking that the floor was already wet and the floor has rotted, I am considering removing the top layer of ply which is very wet and then applying a rotten wood treatment as mentioned by a member at beginning of topic as we don’t want to have a major expensive project, just want to keep it and use it for a while yet as recent service says all else OK

Hi, I’ve been working on it this weekend and I have decided that the problem came about because the floor underneath had become soft and water had leaked in and began to rot it, i spent time patching up the damage underneath and sealing the area with Bitumastic paint, but it was rotting away inside so that’s what has caused the problem, fortunately it is not as bad as I thought it might be and I will be able to repair it myself, I have watched several videos on YouTube covering the problem and what materials I need to fix the problem
Will try and upload some pics later
Fortunately our van has single beds at the back end so access is quite good

That’s sounds ok then that you can get to it easily and you can do it yourself we are in our 70s so can’t do the work ourselves due to mobility issues however the mobile engineer is really good he’s city and gulids he knows what he’s doing thank goodness
