Hi, looking to change from steelies to alloys but unsure what to start looking at. I know cars you have offset on the hubs etc and stud measurement patterns.
I have a fleetwood sonata, anybody got any websites they can direct me to so I can check offset, stud patterns etc before I buy the wrong ones haha.

thanks.

Caravan wheels are standard sizes & there are very few different sizes. The info you require regarding offset & rim width will be stamped on you current steel wheels.

I presume your current wheels are 14inch 5stud & you can get caravan alloys as a direct replacement for them. If your caravan has an Alko chassis then off the top of my head wheels size is 14inch 5stud 112pcd, offset 30mm, 5.5j width & direct replacement caravan alloys are available in this size.

You are unlikely to find any car alloys from a scrappies this size & load rating might be insufficient anyway.

Steel wheels are 4 stud with a 100 pcd and alloys are 5 stud so unless you change the complete hub assembly you won't be able to interchange the wheels unfortunately. Even if you could, you would have to notify your caravan insurance company as it would certainly be classed as a modification from standard equipment when manufactured.

Modern caravan steel wheels are 14inch 5 stud. Direct replacement alloys are available. If op's caravan has Alko 5stud hubs, wheels will be 112pcd.

When you say 'modern', what sort of date are you referring to?
My Coachman caravan is a 1999 model and has 4 stud steel wheels as standard. However, on the 2000 model they kept the same decal design but added an external bbq point and changed from 4 stud steel wheels to 5 stud alloy wheels.

There are 5 stud steel wheels available to fit those hubs. Most modern caravans do have alloys as standard but some low spec foreign built 'vans have steel 5 stud wheels. I think most caravans built this century have 5 stud hubs with 14inch wheels.

Whether axles are Alko or BPW the 5 stud hubs can be fitted with either steels or alloys but the alloys must be caravan wheels & correct studs used, of course. If the op was hoping to fit a pair of suitable secondhand alloys from a car he is unlikely to find any of correct pcd & weight rating may not be sufficient so not advisable anyway.

it is a fleetwood, they were built on a bwp chassis

I reckon OP has steelies that are looking a bitty rusty, my advice would be to remove tyres, give wheels a good going over with a rotary wire brush, 2 coats primer, 2 coats silver wheel paint and 2 coats of laquer. bit of black hammerite on the bearing caps, give the studs the same treatment as wheels or replace with stainless. jobs a goodun or of you are a lazy bugger pop to halfrauds and but some new trims. Not a great fan of alloys as a rule as they cant take the punishment that steelies can

Hi guys, similar type of query, I have 5 stud alloys as standard on my sterling eccles.
What I require is steel wheels for the van to sit on during the off season.
Is there any cars/vans out there with the same stud pattern that anyone knows of!!!

I'd draw your attention to the link in the previous post. It's not as simple as matching the stud pitch and wheel size!

https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/1022844/caravan-tyres-and-wheels-mo.pdf

Caravan wheels are generally stronger than equivalent size/fit car wheels as they have something like twice the load to bear! As well as wheel size and stud position, you also have to match the hub offset or the wheel/tyre will foul the wheel arch!

If you only want to remove Alloys over winter and don't require the van to be mobile then have you considered universal fit 'Winter Wheels'? A little info here: https://www.caravanhelper.co.uk/caravan-winter-wheels/

If you really do need proper wheels, perhaps your best bet is a caravan breakers, who will likely have suitable wheels. A Google will bring up a few around the country.

Our spare wheels on our vehicle and also our caravan are both full size steel wheels. The wheels on our Corolla are steel and are 5 stud.

Maybe the case on lighter vans with steel wheels as 'running' wheels, but my van has a 5 stud steel wheel as a spare to replace the Alloy 'running' wheels! No idea what the PCD is, never needed to measure it.

You may have point with the insurance though, and a knock on of changing wheels! Many wheel locks that fit Alloys will NOT fit steel wheels! My insurer gives a hefty discount for using the Alko lock, and INSISTS on it's fitting whenever van parked up (occupied or not!), but that definitely won't fit a steel wheel! My other lock is also intended for Alloys and would require a different wheel bolt to be used on a steel wheel!

On the subject of wheel bolts, Alloys and Steel wheels often use different fitting bolts/nuts, as the seating cone is matched to the specific wheel material. Use the wrong type and you risk permanent damage to wheel!

I don't think I'll find a corolla down the scrappies!!!
As stated I only want to stand the caravan on these wheels not to use on the roads.
The 'winter wheels' are a good idea but come at a cost.
