I need some damp repairs on my caravan and the price I have been quoted is prohibitive. I wondered if anybody living in North Wales or the North West of England had had a favourable experience with damp repairs. It's on a Lunar Stellar but that's of no consequence. Thank you.

You should get some pointers here.

im not in either of those places however like you we found damp in our caravan on the front end. so during last summer we set too and did the repairs ourselves as the cost was beyond both our pocket and the value of the caravan to send it to be done professionally.

we watched all the youtube posts regarding how to go about it, bought the new seals for the windows, along with the timber, wallboard and sealant/mastic and set too, took us 2 weekends to totally strip out the front end and rebuilt it, we had no power as the caravan was in storage, the hardest part was putting the new window seals in! but the job was done and now you would never know it has been touched and has remained dry ever since.

if you do a search on here there are many many posts of what to do and how to go about it and where to buy the seals from, if i was you i would cover the caravan for now, and stop it getting any worse, set too buying the gear you need, and once the warmer weather arrives set too yourself.

the total cost for doing the 3 windows and all the woodwork at the front end came to under £200, a huge difference to the £2500 we where uoted for doing the work. good luck

Most damp remedial work, if not too extensive will still be expensive to have done by a professional. It's the labour content that is required, the cost of the parts to put things right is not too bad. Especially true on an older van where unless you can do it yourself it is just not cost effective.

The tools needed are pretty basic, so too is the knowledge required, average woodworking and DIY skills. There are many helpful posts on here (see the Fixed It Club) and also on YouTube, perhaps you could have a go yourself?

Hi and thanks for that. If I was a bit younger I wouldn't give it a second thought but now 80+ I'm not so sure.
