That will be specific for the German gas bottle which is beige colour, yes? You can change to Calor propane with correct 37mb regulator no probs.

If the Motorhome was made after 2004 - no you can not change to a 37mb reg

you must use 30mb reg as appliances are set up to operate at that pressure

OP appears to refer to 30mb bottle top regulator as fitted to German gas bottle, not the 30mb bulkhead regulator as fitted to most modern caravans/motorhomes. Appliances will work with any correctly set up gas system. 30mb bulkhead regulator can use either butane or propane bottles of any nationality connected with correct pigtails.

If OP is using bottle top regulator as he indicates then he needs to use specific regulator for whatever bottle he uses. UK gas bottles use 28mb butane or 37mb propane.

Whatever setup he uses, appliances will work equally well. Obviously propane should be used in winter temperatures.

As I said you should not change to a 30mb regulator

Look at BS EN1949

All vans after 2004 should be 30mb reg - it has no bearing on bottle mounted or bulkhead mounter

All that matters is that gas should be delivered to appliance at correct pressure. As stated that will happen whether setup uses 30mb bulkhead regulator or appropriate bottle top regulators. UK supplied gas bottles can only be fitted with correct regulator for that bottle, incorrect ones will not fit.

Forget bulkhead regulators, it is not applicable in op case. His motorhome, presumably imported secondhand from Germany has a German gas bottle which uses a 30mb bottletop regulator specific for that bottle. He wishes to change to a UK gas bottle & can do so using correct regulator for that bottle.

UK supplied motorhomes & caravans have been fitted with bulkhead regulators since 2004, many continental supplied motorhomes/caravans still use bottle top regulators, ie they are not fitted with bulkhead regulators.

If you want you can remove bulkhead regulator, revert to bottletop regulator & it will work equally as well using either butane bottle with 28mb regulator or propane bottle with 37mb regulator.

All clear now?

You are incorrect in the advise given -

1, The country in which a bottle is made has no bearing on the operating pressure of the regulator

2, the operating pressure of ALL regulators fitted to european leisure vehicles from 2004 onwards is 30mb - and 1.5kg/h

3, Appliances are designed to run on 28mb, 30mb, 37mb, and 50mb
They are matched to the regulator fitted to the vehicle at time of manufacture

4, not all regulators are the 37mb for propane & 28mb for butane - there are many other options - and they fit standard propane and butane bottles

There should be a sticker in your gas locker indicating the operating pressure of the appliances. That's the regulator you need to use.

If you want to use a 6kg Calor propane bottle(for example)in any caravan or motorhome of UK/European make that does not have a bulkhead regulator fitted then you use the specific 37mb regulator as sold in any caravan shop fitted to the top of that gas bottle.

You are failing to grasp the simple question asked by the op...

This was...(as I read the op)

He has bought a used motorhome in Germany.

That motorhome is fitted with a German gas bottle with bottle top regulator.

The motorhome does not have a bulkhead regulator.

The op wants to change to a UK gas bottle, ie Calor.

The simple step by step instructions would be...

Ensure gas is turned off & rubber gas pipe is in good condition.

With sharp knife cut through rubber pipe just behind gas bottle regulator.

Lift out German gas bottle & replace with Calor 6kg propane bottle & regulator, which will be 37mb.

Put jubilee clip over rubber pipe, dip end of rubber pipe into hot water to soften, push rubber pipe onto nipple of Calor regulator, secure with jubilee clip.

Job is done. Ask anybody who has ever imported a used m/h from Germany & changed from German to UK gas bottle.

The only one, it would seem, that has clearly not read my post and that has made assumptions is Opensauce

I am a gas safe qualified engineer that works on caravans every day of the week!!

At no point did I assume it had a bulkhead regulator fitted - I change many imported motorhome / caravan regulators during the course of the year to run on UK specification gas bottles - and no I do not fit bulk head regulators every time.

At no point in any of my replies have I said he has to fit a bulk head mounted regulator!!

If you take the time to read the BS EN1949 it clearly states you must use a 30mb regulator if the leisure vehicle is made or converted from 2004 onwards - bulk head regulators are the standard required by NCC on UK manufactured caravans and motorhomes

You can get 30mb regulators to fit to a bottle with a pol convertor

As I said in my original post no you can not change to a 37mb regulator !!

If you want to stay within the law then this is the only way to do it!

Stepping aside the rights and wrongs 7 millibar is equivalent to about 0.1 PSI.

So in reality is the difference between 30mb and 37mb about the same as a weak fart?

I have an old Hobby which was imported from Germany by the previous owner. It had a smallish German bottle inside the locker with a 50mbar regulator. The sticker in the locker states 50mbar so although I have now got a 47kg bottle I had to buy a 50mbar regulator as the original pigtail was too short. Simples.

In 2004 I purchased a Geist caravan (brand new) with a door on our correct side.

The bulkhead regulator was labeled Butane/Propane and was fitted with a pressure gauge read out in bars only.

The regulator was fitted with a rubber and woven stainless steel sheathed pig tail which in turn was fitted with a clip on bottle top connector of a heavy design.

This clip on would only fit a bottle with a 27mm dia spigot most uk bottles with clip on's are 21mm dia for butane except BP glass fibre propane bottles regardless of weight. (now Gaslight)

The manual was mostly in German. But I was able to to read with some help from neighbour who spoke German tho there is a lot of difference between German as used daily and Technical German (like two different languages)
If I wanted to use Calor Propane I would have had to change to a male spigot pigtail to female valve on bottle.

The manual also stated that cooker fridge and Gas side of heater could be used on propane in winter and butane in summer, so I just used BP propane all year and now at 75 I am glad I stayed on the glassfibre bottles even in my new Adria van.

Just thought I would fill you in on my experience with gas bottles ETC

You must be completely confused by now! The short answer is that the 30mbar reg is suitable for butane as well as propane. You don't have to get a new reg. Previously it was 28mbar for butane and 37mbar for propane but Europe has now standardised to just 30 for both so no need to swap regulators unless of course it doesn't fit the new bottle.

I think it's a given that a German gas bottle does not have a pol fitting as on Calor propane bottle. I know it does not, anyway.

You talk of 'standard' 30mb? For bulkhead fitting regulators yes it is, but find me a 30mb regulator to screw into a 6kg Calor propane bottle, can you get them? Google finds nothing. Do you have a link?
